HiCoins as reward: 0 (problem unresolved)

I have a TelMex Modem/Router (HG8245Q2) PPOE fiber optic in Mexico.  Wired to it, I have a Linksys WRT3200ACM AC3200 that is loaded with a VPN (ExpressVPN) I need as I work for a company in the US.  The TelMex speed I have is 1gig and wired to the Modem/Router I get about 987mbps down and 421mbps up. Wired to the Linksys Router with the VPN (ExpressVPN) on it, I get about 165mbps down and 58mbps up.  I also have connected to the Modem/Router a TP-Link Mesh Deco since this 3 story houe is madre of concrete and the Modem/Router's Wi-Fi does reach.  Should I put the Moden/Router in Bridge mode?  Would this help with the speed on the Linksys Router with the VPN, or should I be doing something different.  I am not able to loasd the VPN onto the laptop I use as it is Admin Controlled by the company I work for.

I am open to any and all suggestions.  Also to add, I have 3 TV's that use Firesticks for streaming all television content.

Hello, friend!

According to your problem description, I cannot accurately identify the reason why the Wi-Fi rate of the HG8245Q2 decreases. For your problem, you can try to set the HG8245Q2 to the bridge mode. However, we cannot promise that the Wi-Fi rate will increase after the device configuration is changed. Note that if you set the HG8245Q2 to bridge mode, you need to migrate the gateway to another router (set route mode). Otherwise, the network cannot work properly.

In addition, it is confirmed that the HG8245Q2 has reached EOS. Please click:

If you need a better experience, it is recommended that you purchase a new device to replace it.

Thanks!

The problem is I can not change the Huawei because that is owned by TelMex and it what gets me the 1gig speed internet in my house. I am confused as to when I am wired to that modem directly with the laptop I use for work, I get 987mbps down and 421mbps up. To me that seems correct for the 1gig speed I am paying for. But when I go upstairs and wire to the Linksys WRT3200ACM AC3200 running DD-WRT from ExpressVPN, I get 165mbps down and 58mbps up. That is a big spread of a difference.

The Linksys router is wired from the Huawei modem with a CAT 8 cable. Why the huge spread. The Huawei is on router mode on PPPOE as that is what TelMex uses, and the Linksys is set up on DHCP. Am I missing something?

Hi, dear!
If the version is customized by the carrier, we have no right to know the customer's device customization information. You need to contact the ISP for a solution.
You can try it the way you want, or you can switch to a new device, which will enhance the network experience.

For starters (and this is a really important one!) - avoid testing on WiFi. WiFi speeds are limited and will never provide
the most accurate results. Under ideal conditions, 2.4GHz WiFi will
support up to 450Mbps-600Mbps and although 5GHz WiFi will support up to
1300Mbps, the test will most likely be limited by interference (from
other devices, thick walls, microwaves, congested channels, to name a
few...)

How to run a speed test

To perform the most valid speed test we recommend the following:

  1. Connect your device to the router using a wired connection. Never test on Wi-Fi.

  2. Use a good quality cable, minimum Cat5e, but use ideally Cat6 and STP (Shielded Twisted Pair) to stop electrical interference. This is printed on the cable.

  3. Do not use an old computer, but a higher-performing up to date device. Using older devices can adversely affect performance.

  4. Reboot your device to ensure it is running the minimum software to
run and do not open any applications other than a web browser. We
recommend using the latest versions of Chrome, Internet Explorer or
Firefox. Please ensure only one browser window is open and with no tabs.

  5. Ensure that no anti-virus scanner is active as this can
significantly increase the load on your computer. But be sure to turn it
back on afterwards as leaving your scanner off is a security hazard and
    it is not recommended.

  6. Ensure you are not running any ‘VPN’ (Virtual Private Network) or
proxy type of application at the time of speed testing as this can
    severely hamper the results.

  7. Please ensure no other devices are connected, which will contend for the available bandwidth.

  8. Download the Speed Test App to your device and ensure the server selected is 'Community Fibre Limited (London)'

  9. Please note down your speed test results for both up and down speeds
and compare them with the expected speeds for the service you are
    taking and take a screenshot.

  10. Perform three tests (at different times) and record all results.
Ideally one in the morning, a second mid-day, and a third in the
    evening.

Thanks for that. I know that rule. I test wired with a CAT 8 cable on the Huawei modem and get about 987mbps down and 421mbps up, which seems right for the 1gig I am paying for. HOWEVER, wired to the Linksys Router with the DD-WRT VPN (ExpressVPN) on it, I get about 165mbps down and 58mbps up. Again with a CAT 8 cable. And the Modem and the Router upstairs are connected together with a CAT 8 cable as well. What seems to be the issue. 987 down vs 165 down. HUGE SPREAD.
