HiCoins as reward: 0 (problem unresolved)

Hello,

I have a Huawei HG8245Q which I got from my ISP in Saudi Arabia. The name of the ISP is STC (Saudi Telecom Company). Recently I relocated to India and I carried the HG8245Q along with me to India. I am now in the process of applying for a Fiber Internet connection here, and I would like to know if I can use the same router here for an Internet connection. Will there be anything like a locked firmware on the router so that I can use it only with STC? If yes, will it be possible to unlock with generic firmware? Can I get the firmware from Huawei to unlock it? Please help.

Regard!

Hello, friend!

Different product models apply to different markets.

The HG8245Q is mainly oriented to Saudi Arabia.

If you purchase a general-purpose device (not a customized product), you can use it technically.

(The firmware of customized products may be locked. To unlock the firmware, contact the local network service provider.

Firmware locks do not exist for general-purpose devices.)

However, the HG8245Q is not widely used in India, and Indian network service providers will not recognize it or provide technical support.

It is recommended that you purchase a local ONT so that network service providers can provide network services.

Thanks!

Hi Chenxinato, Thanks for the quick response. I fully understand that HG8245Q is released for Saudi Arabian market. Since I moved out from KSA to India, I brought all my belongings and this router also was taken back to India. As you are aware, the biggest challenge the world faces today is e-waste. And I strongly believe that we should have a mechanism by which we can re-use the products we purchased. It it totally unfair for a manufacturer to lock the device for a particular country.

Hello, friend!
I'm in the same mood as you are when it comes to electronic waste.
But instead of device manufacturers locking in a market through firmware, each country has a different ISP.
The device is only a carrier of the network.
The device models selected by ISPs vary from country to country.
As a result, devices of different models cannot be used across countries.
I hope you know what I mean.
Thank you!

Having said that, I have further 2 more queries if you can please help me with that it will be great.

i) How can I find out if the device is locked for only a particular operator. Is there a possibility of getting a generic firmware from Huawei. Getting from STC is a pain.

ii) My ISP in India is presently using huawei eg8141a5 router. THere is a shortage for it in the market and I am not getting a fiber connection because of that. Is this router similar to 8245G in terms of the connection settings etc? Please advice.

Thanks

You can query the device SN to find out whether the device is a non-customized product. Generally, only custom products have firmware locks.
You can also consult the device provider about whether the device model is a customized product.
The forum cannot provide firmware because the firmware is purchased by the carrier and can be obtained only from the carrier.
The ONT connection modes are the same.
