Hi. You cannot download a new ONT firmware unless you are a very important, reputable, rich, large-scaled and powerful customer to Huawei. Otherwise above is all you can get: "contact the device provider to download the ONT firmware through a formal channel". This situation is only limited to Huawei's ONT products and does not involve other product categories. Answer from a Huawei customer who has no relations to the Huawei officials. This answer only on behalf of personal views.

To download the latest firmware, you only need to upgrade the account permissions based on the device information. You need to prove that you are actually using the device.
