HG8245H doesn't forward DHCP packets over LAN

This post is about the issue that HG8245H doesn't forward DHCP packets over LAN. Please check below information.


Huawei HG8245H


ISSUE DESCRIPTION


HG8245H drops DHCP packets that are sent to LAN and prevent my devices from loading by PXE. I can not install a new OS, cannot update the firmware for my devices over the network.


There is an option:


Enable DHCP Relay:

in LAN --> DHCP Server Configuration, but it doesn't have any effect. If I download the configuration settings, it is always 0. Looks like a bug in the router. There are other question on the internet that confirm that this Huawei router doesn't cooperate with other DHCP servers in the LAN.


POSSIBLE SOLUTION


Maybe there is some setting that can be turned on/off. Maybe new firmware is needed. Please advise.

Hi there!

Enable DHCP L2 Relay. Tthe function depends on the model of the WAN:

• If the mode of the WAN port is Route, the IP address of the ONT is obtained from upper-layer DHCP servers in different subnets and the user-side IP addresses are obtained from the DHCP address pool of the ONT.

• If the mode of the WAN port is Bridge, the ONT functions as a bridge. In this way, the ONT does not have an IP address. The user-side IP addresses are obtained from upper-layer DHCP servers in different subnets.

Because the message is probably not enough, if this can not solve your problem, please send an email to your TAC. They will guide you to do the troubleshooting.

"WAN Mode" is Route WAN. Take a note that the problem is with LAN to LAN DHCP packets that are needed for network boot.

TAC support asks me for the contract number signed with Huawei. I didn't buy this modem from Huawei, and I don't have this number. Does that mean the modem is some kind of vendor-locked device with custom firmware that produces this bug?
