HG8145V5 - Wifi Connection Black Out

I am facing wifi connection blackout with EchoLife HG8145V5 GPON Terminal whenever I am connecting my laptop through wifi. The issue become obvious during conferrence call. In middle of the call, out of sudden there was ~2 seconds complete silence blackout even though we were active communicating. I tried to monitor the wifi connection through taskbar manager. It shows the data receive package drop to complete 0, matching the blackout timing. Once I switched to LAN, the blackout does not appear, which suggest that blackout was not caused by internet provider.


Is there anything I can do to tackle this issue?

Based on the previous experience of the HG8145V5, the following problems exist:

ONTs can only be installed indoors. If the reinforcing rib of the optical fiber is not cut off during the installation, or cables, such as the network cable and telephone line, are routed outdoors, ONTs may fail due to lightning strikes. If input voltages fluctuate excessively and exceed the specified voltage range of the power adapter, the power adapter may fail.


[Problem Description]


Symptom:

The ONT cannot be started, the network port is damaged, and the power adapter has no output, resulting in service interruption.


Trigger conditions:

The issue is triggered when The ONT is installed in non-standard scenarios, such as outdoor or semi-outdoor environments. The power supply is abnormal.

1. The reinforcing rib of the optical fiber is not cut off before the optical fiber is routed indoors.

2. Cables, such as the network cable and telephone line, are routed outdoors.

3. Due to unstable voltages or loosely-connected power cables, input voltages of the power adapter fluctuate excessively and exceed the input voltage range of the power adapter.


Identification method:

1. Check whether the network port fails to link up, or the circuit board has signs of burning.

2. Check whether the power adapter has no output, or the shell is damaged.

3. Check whether the power indicator of the ONT is abnormal or cannot be started.


[Root Cause]


1. External abnormal energy enters the ONT through the reinforcing rib, network cable, or telephone line. When energy exceeds the protection capabilities of components, the circuits on the network port, the CPU, and other components of the ONT are damaged. As a result, the ONT cannot work normally.


2. Due to unstable voltages or loosely-connected power cables, input voltages of the power adapter fluctuate excessively and exceed the input voltage range of the power adapter. As a result, the power adapter cannot supply power.


[Impact and Risk]


impact:

1. The ONT fails, and its functions and performance are abnormal.

2.  The power adapter is damaged and cannot be powered on. The shell is deformed.

3.  The ONT cannot work properly if it is damaged. The fault impact is limited, and there is no security risk.


Risk scope:

Non-standard scenarios where ONTs are installed


[Measures and Solutions]


Recovery measure:

Check whether the ONT and power adapter are normal and replace the abnormal one.


Solution:

1. Cut off the reinforcing rib of the optical fiber before the optical fiber is routed indoors.

2. Install and deploy the ONT in a clean indoor environment. Cables, such as the network cable and telephone line, cannot be routed outdoors.

3. Ensure that the power cable of the adapter is properly connected and the voltage is within the input voltage range of the power adapter. (For details about the input voltage range, see the nameplate on the power adapter.)

I appreciated the effort trying to resolve my problem. If this is indeed what's is happening to the device, I should have getting the same disturbance using the LAN network as well, don't you agree?

By the way, the device is installed indoor with original power adaptor that is 1 week old...
