HCNP-R&S: Which exam should I prepare for?

"HCDP" was the old name that Huawei used in the passed for HCNP-R&S certification, so at the moment you won't find any training or exam information anymore on our website for 'HCDP', this was been replaced already some time ago by 'HCNP-R&S'.

To get HCNP-R&S certification, there are 2 exam options, depending on your situation:

1. Normal way is to pass the 3 required exams in routing (IERN), switching (IESN) and network performance (IENP). The Prometric exam codes are respectively: H12-221, H12-222 and H12-223.

2. For engineers that already have a valid, equivalent level or higher level certification from another vendor (for example Cisco CCNP or CCIE), there is the possiblity to take 1 fast track exam to achieve HCNP-R&S certification. Prometric exam code H12-224.

Please note that the fast track exam is ONLY allowed for engineers that meet the requirement of having equivalent level or higher level certification from another vendor (you will be asked to sent proof of this upon applying for your certification!). If you don't meet this requirement, then take the 3 regular exams to get HCNP-R&S certification.

Thank you for your answer. I would also like to ask one more thing related to the original question. Do you think it is appropriate for me to use CCNP material to prepare for this exam. It is much easier for me to find CCNP study material especially books so I was wondering if this will help.

Yes, for some of the non-Huawei specific topics, you can use materials and/or resources from other vendors, including Cisco. But still I'd advice to also go through all the available Huawei materials, to make sure you know and understand how the technology is applied with Huawei network equipment and to ensure you also gain knowledge of all the Huawei-specific topics.

Ideally I recommend you would attend some training class which will also give you hands-on experience configuring Huawei equipment. If you already have experience on CCNP level or similar, you can attend a 5-day HCNP-R&S Fast Track training class which will focus on Huawei specific topics. Huawei authorized learning partners all around the world organize these types of training courses.
