Hi there!
In this chapter, we will learn about the hardware of Huawei's mainstream MSTP products.
MSTP is an SDH-based multi-service transmission platform. In addition to SDH, MSTP has Ethernet and ATM functions.
Part 1 Introduction to the MSTP System
1. Huawei MSTP equipment consists of two series: OptiX OSN 1500/2500/3500/7500, OptiX OSN 500/550/580. They are mainly used to implement efficient transmission of SDH, PDH, Ethernet, ATM, DDN, and SAN services from the backbone layer to the access layer. The others are the OptiX OSN 500/550/580 series, which are mainly used at the network access layer or enterprise private networks.
2. The MSTP system consists of the following functional units:
Tributary unit (TU): Receives and processes client-side services such as PDH, PCM, Ethernet, and ATM.
Line unit (LU): Pn SDH unit that receives and processes STM-N signals and performs O/E conversion.
Cross-connect unit: Provides flexible grooming of VC4, VC3, and VC12 services. It is the core of the equipment.
Clock unit: Provides clock sources for devices.
Auxiliary unit: Provides various auxiliary functions.
SCC unit: Controls and communicates with the system.
Part 2: Cabinet, Subrack, and Chassis
1. Cabinet dimensions (width x depth x height): 600mm*600/300mm*2000/2200/2600mm,. Therefore, there are six specifications in total.
2. Number of subracks that can be installed:

3. Two OptiX OSN 3500 subracks can be installed in a 2.2 m cabinet.
4. Indicators on the cabinet top.
The green indicator is the power indicator. The red indicator indicates a critical alarm. The orange indicator indicates a major alarm, and the yellow indicator indicates a minor alarm. If the alarm indicator is on, it indicates that one or more subracks in the cabinet have alarms of the corresponding severity.
5. DC power distribution box TN51PDU: Part A and B can input and output four –48 V power supplies respectively. RTN is positive (+), and NEG is negative (-).
6. Power consumption.
For the OptiX OSN 1500/2500/3500/7500 series:

For the OptiX OSN 500/550/580 series:

7. The OptiX OSN 1500/2500/3500/7500 supports only -48 V or -60 V DC power input.
8. The slot for installing the interface board must match the slot for the service processing board.
9. Boards to implement service protection must be installed in paired slots. Paired slots are two slots between which overhead bytes can pass through the backplane bus. Paired slots implement automatic transparent transmission of overhead bytes, such as K bytes, D bytes, and E1 bytes. This improves MSP switching performance and protects DCC communication with other NEs even if the SCC board on the local NE is offline.
