Hello, everyone!
Today, I want to start to explain the GPON ONU basic operations. Now, in this article, I will explain the manual discovery mode for adding ONU. Let’s get started.
In the next figure, we can see the process of adding an ONU to the GPON system. There is a small difference for ONT, MxU, and MDU, we can see it in the figure below. And there are two methods for the process of adding an ONU.

As I said in the last article, there are two methods of adding ONU devices, and they are:
auto discovery mode, and
manual discovery mode.
Now, I will explain the manual discovery mode. The procedure for adding ONU devices in manual discovery mode is as follows:
the ONU device connects to the system and power it on,
adding ONU devices to OLT – manually add SN ONU, and
registration of ONU on the GPON system.
First, an active GPON service board with PON ports should be installed on OLT. It means. After that, the ONU device can be connected to the system and turn on the power. The next step is to manually add the ONU of the device to the OLT using the SN number of the ONU.
We use the next command to add ONU device in the manual discovery mode:

It is important to pay attention to the SN number of the ONU device and to choose the appropriate line and service profiles.
This method can be used when the ONU is offline. It is recommended that a description of locations and times be added for each ONU to facilitate maintenance.
The following command is very useful because it gives us information about the status of the ONU device.

In the tables below the command, we see a detailed explanation for control flag, running flag, configuration status and matching status. I wrote about all these parameters in a separate article. We use all this when maintaining the GPON system.
This is the end of this article. In the next article, I will continue to write about this topic >> GPON ONU basic operations (8): ONU maintenance and query.
Thank you!
