Hello, everyone!
Today, I want to start to explain a new topic – GPON OLT basic operations. This is the first article, and now I will explain device connection.

Device maintenance can be classified into the following port modes:
Maintenance through the serial port,
Maintenance mode of network port (out-band maintenance through network port), and
Maintenance mode of the upstream port (in-band maintenance on the upstream port).
Maintenance through the serial port
The first step is to connect the PC and OLT (control board) using the RS232 serial cable to the CON port (RS-232 serial port). After that, we open the HyperTerminal. We need to set the parameters to HyperTerminal. We need to set the baud rate of the HyperTerminal to be equal to the baud rate of the serial port on the OLT. This value is 9600 bit/s. And usually, it's all from the setup that needs to be done on the HyperTerminal. This whole process is shown in the diagram in the figure below.

Maintenance mode of the network port
This mode uses non-service channels for management information. The first step is to connect the PC to the ETH network port on the OLT (control board). Direct or crossover UTP cable can be used. Pre-configuration of ETH port - IP address is required. The next step is to log in to the OLT via Telnet or SSH. After that, we can monitor, manage, configure OLT. We can see this process in the figures below.

Maintenance mode of the upstream port
The service channel of an OLT is used. In this mode, upstream or subtending ports are used to transmit management information. These ports are connected to an upper-layer device or subtending device. Port configuration is required and after that, we can log in to OLT using SSH or Telnet, or SNMP. We can see this process in the pictures below.

This is the end of this article. I will explain this topic in the next article >> GPON OLT Basic Operations (2).
Thank you!
