Hello, friend!

The customer uses the FusionCompute from V100R006C00U1SPC00 to FusionSphere V100R006C10. they install ubuntu 16.0.4. but can not create snapshot .the error as below pic

1. Check the FusionCompute 6.0 compatibility list and confirm that ubuntu 64 is in the compatibility list for FusionCompute 6.0.

2. Check the PV driver version of the virtual machine and verify that PV driver supports the operating system snapshot function. It is confirmed that this virtual machine is the latest version of PV driver installed, according to the corresponding version of FusionSphere SIA compatibility list, this version is to support windows10 64-bit operating system memory snapshot and storage snapshot.

3. FusionCompute Before executing the snapshot command, the system determines whether the operating system supports the snapshot function according to a configuration table in the VRM. And confirm first-line, the contents of the configuration table on the active and standby VRMs have been modified according to the guideline and modified to support memory snapshots and storage snapshots.

Change the file path to /opt/galax/vrm/tomcat/webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/classes/osConfig_Linux.properties . The changes are as follow pic screenshot:

But for the fusioncompute6.0 version, when the system determines whether the snapshot function is supported, the configuration table read is not in the above path described in the instruction book but in this path: /opt/galax/vrm/tomcat/webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/classes/osConfig_Linux.properties

Root Cause

In Fusioncompute version 6.0, the system reads the configuration file under this path when it determines whether the snapshot function is supported: /opt/galax/vrm/tomcat/webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/classes/osConfig_Linux.properties. so, the contents of the file need to be modified.  this is not a product bug or configuration issue, it is the product realization mechanism. The release of SIA is separate from the release of FC. SIA is a plug-in class that is part of the enhanced virtual machine function. The release cycle is short and the update is fast. The SIA (PV driver) that comes with the FC version is rather old and does not support some virtual machines Advanced features, so the support bit will not let go, waiting for the release of SIA support later, so need to modify it the file to open the support bit.

Solution

1. log in to the backup VRM, and modify the file field.
The path is /opt/galax/vrm/tomcat/webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/classes/osConfig_Linux.properties.

Modify the last two fields from FALSE to TRUE

2. log in to the main VRM, same with the 1 step.  Then reboot vrmd server. The cmd is:

service vrmd restart
3. log in to the FusionCompute again, you can create snapshot success.

That's all, thanks!
