Four Wave Mixing

Four-wave mixing (FWM) occurs when the interaction of two or three different light waves leads to the generation of new light waves at other wavelengths called mixing products or edge sources.These light can affect normal communication.This nonlinear optical effect is called four-wave mixing. It is caused by the third-order nonlinear polarization of the medium. The following figure shows a clear picture:
