Forcibly Switching a Protection Group

Hi, there.

I wonder whether there is a method to forcibly switch the protection group on the MA5800. Only can the protection group be automatically switched after a fault occurs? Or can there be other methods to control the protection group?

Thanks.

Hello, dear friend.

The force-switch command is used to control the protection switch on a protection group. When you need to perform a forced switch on a protection group, run this command. After this command is executed, the forced switch is performed regardless of the status of the specified target member.

The undo force-switch command is used to cancel a forced switch. Running this command clears the forced switch operation on a protection group that is under a forced switch. In addition, a message is displayed to indicate that the command is incorrect if the PG is not under a forced switch.

Usage Guidelines

  • Run the config command to enter global config mode, and then run the protect-group(mode) command to enter protect-group mode.

  • The priority of a forced switch is:

    • Lower than the priority of a lock operation. The lock operation on a member in a protection group cancels the forced switch operation on the member.

    • Higher than the priority of a manual switch. If a manual switch command is executed and then the forced switch operation is performed, the result of the forced switch prevails.

    • Higher than the priority of failure signals. Therefore, the forced switch is performed regardless of the status of the specified target member.

  • A forced switch operation cannot be performed on a protection group when it is disabled.

  • When a protection group is enabled, a forced switch operation cannot be performed on the protection group after the protection group is frozen.

  • A forced switch operation cannot be performed on a protection group when it is locked.

  • A dual-homing protection group has only one member, which is also called a local port.

    • When a local port is switched to a peer port, set the parameters for the local port and use peer-group-member to specify the peer port when running this command.

    • When a peer port is switched to a local port, use peer-group-member to specify the local port and set the parameters for the peer port when running this command.

Thanks.
