Fedora 13 Installation Guide












About This Document
This document describes the installation of Fedora 13 using an RH2288 server as an example.


1 Preparing for the Installation
1.1 Preparing the Hardware Environment
 USB DVD-ROM drive
 Fedora 13 installation DVD-ROM
1.2 Preparing the Software Environment
LSI SAS2208 controller card driver: fc13_all.img
1.3 Configuring the Environment
Step 1 During the system startup process, press Delete to access the BIOS setup interface, and set the BIOS time to the current time.
Step 2 Press F9 to load default configurations. When the dialog box shown in the following figure is displayed, select OK and press Enter.


Step 3 Press F10 to save the configurations and exit. When the dialog box shown in the following figure is displayed, select Yes.
The system restarts.


Step 4 During LSI controller card initialization in the system startup process, configure a RAID array as prompted.
 If the server uses the LSI SAS2208 controller card, press Ctrl+H and configure a RAID array.
 If the server uses the LSI SAS2308 controller card, press Ctrl+C and configure a RAID array.

2 Installing the OS
Step 1 Place the installation DVD-ROM in the USB DVD-ROM drive, restart the server, and press F11 in the BIOS power-on self-test (POST) phase. The screen shown in the following figure is displayed. Select the USB DVD-ROM drive as the boot device, and press Enter.


Step 2 On the initial installation screen, press Enter.
The installation screen is displayed, as shown in the following figure.


Step 3 On the CD Found screen, select Skip and press Enter.


Step 4 In the Fedora welcome window shown in the following figure, click Next.


Step 5 If the server uses the LSI SAS2208 controller card, mount fc13_all.img on BMC and press CTRL+ALT+F2 to switch to the shell on console 2.


Step 6 Run the following commands to install the driver.
# fdisk -l for list device. Assume my USB-drive assigned /dev/sdb1
# mkdir /mnt2 /megaraid
# mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt2
# cp /mnt2/* /megaraid
# umount /mnt2
# cd /megaraid
#sh ./first_load.sh


Step 7 After the installation, press CTRL+ALT+F6 to switch back to the installation screen.


Step 8 In the language selection window, select English (English) and click Next.


Step 9 In the keyboard selection window, select U.S. English and click Next.


Step 10 In the device type selection window, select Basic Storage Devices (default option) and click Next.



If the server uses LSI SAS2308 controller card, the dialog box shown in the following figure is displayed, click Re-initialize all.


Step 11 Name this computer and click Next.


Step 12 In the window shown in the following figure, select Asia/Shanghai and click Next.


Step 13 Set the password for the root user and click Next.


Step 14 In the Installation Mode window, select Create Custom Layout and click Next.


Step 15 In the Please Select A Device window, create disk partitions and click Next. For details about the partition creation method, see Table 2-1.

 If the OS is to be installed on the sda disk, create partitions on the sda disk.
 If the OS is to be installed on the sdx disk (disk corresponding to a RAID array), create partitions on the sdx disk.

1 (Optional) Delete existing partitions.

If the hard disk where the OS is to be installed has insufficient available disk space, delete one or more partitions from the hard disk. Select the hard disk where the OS is to be installed and click Delete to delete all existing partitions on the hard disk.

You can also select a partition on the hard disk and click Delete to delete the partition.
2 Create the root partition. Select the hard disk where the OS is to be installed, and click New.
In the Add Partition window, set File system to Ext3, Size to 20480 MB (20 GB), and Mount Point to /.
Click OK.
3 Create the swap partition. Select the hard disk where the OS is to be installed, and click New.
In the Add Partition window, set File system to swap and Size to 4096 MB (4 GB).
Click OK.

Step 16 In the boot loader window shown in the following figure, select The GRUB boot loader will be installed on /dev/sda and click Next.

 If the OS is to be installed on the sda disk, install the grub on the sda disk.
 If the OS is to be installed on the sdx disk (disk corresponding to a RAID array), install the grub on the sdx disk.


Step 17 In the window shown in the following figure, select software applicable for general Internet use (Software Development is recommended), select Customize now, and click Next.


Step 18 Click Next.


Step 19 The screen shown in the following figure is displayed after installation. If the server uses the LSI SAS2208 controller card, press CTRL+ALT+F2 to switch back to console 2 and enter the following commands:
# mkdir /mnt/sysimage/tmp/megaraid
# cp -r /megaraid/* /mnt/sysimage/tmp/megaraid
# chroot /mnt/sysimage/
# cd /tmp/megaraid
# sh ./final_load.sh
# exit


Step 20 After the installation, press Ctrl+Alt+F6 to return to the graphical interface, and click Reboot.
The system restarts.
After the restart, the Welcome window is displayed.
Step 21 Click Forward.


Step 22 In the License Information window, click Forward.


Step 23 In the Create User window, add a user as required and click Forward.


Step 24 In the Date and Time window, set the date and time, and click Forward.


Step 25 In the Hardware Profile window, click Finish.
