As a transmission medium, optical fiber plays a very important role in communication applications. Optical fibers can be divided into different types according to different angles. For example, according to different materials, they can be divided into quartz-based fibers, multi-component glass fibers, and plastic-clad quartz core fibers; they can be divided into multimode fibers and single modes according to different transmission modes. Optical fiber; can be divided into short-wave fiber and long-wave fiber according to different wavelengths. We mainly introduce multimode fiber and single mode fiber.
The multimode fiber has a core diameter of 50 or 62.5 μm and a cladding outer diameter of 125 μm, designated 50/125 μm or 62.5/125 μm. Multimode fiber has a limited transmission distance due to its large dispersion. The light source of the multimode fiber is generally a light emitting diode.
The more commonly used multimode fibers are OM1, OM2 and OM3. The current mainstream is OM3.
