Question
How do I move and install a storage system and which precautions should I take?
Answer
1. Stop services on the host (running the Linux, AIX, or Solaris operating system) corresponding to the storage system.
Check whether services are stopped on the host side and the storage array side.
a. Check whether services are stopped on the host side.
On the CLI of the host side,
run the iostat–xt 1 command to check whether the I/O statistics of the corresponding LUNs are 0.
If the I/O statistics remain 0 within 5 minutes, services have been stopped on the host side.
As shown in the following figure, the I/O statistics of /dev/sda, /dev/sdb, /dev/sdc, and /dev/sdd are all 0,
which indicates that services on the host side have been stopped.

b. Check whether services are stopped on the storage array side.
Logon the Device Manager of the storage, enter the Performance Monitoring,and then
check the File OPS and Total IOPS .
As shown in the following figure, the File OPS and Total IOPS are all 0 in 5 minutes,
which indicates that services on the storage array side have been stopped.

2. Record the connections of the optical fibers, SAS cables, or network cables before removing them.
3. Turn off the power switch of the storage system.
4. Move and reinstall the storage system.
Reinsert the optical fibers, SAS cables, or network cables based on the information recorded in step 2.
5. Restart the storage system. Then, restore services.
