Greetings.
I’m having a problem with a Huawei ONT HG8145V5.
Problem: At random times, at random days, device resets by itself. It can be every other day, it can be one time after 15 days, it can be at 2:00 am, or 3:00 pm, or 10 pm or at any given time. Sometimes shows an error in the user log section, and sometimes it doesn’t show an error:
2021-08-18 16:58 [Error][Alarm-Log] AlarmID:104001,AlarmLevel:Error,Device reset. Cause: [5], Terminal:OTHER
Sometimes the device resets itself and I cannot acces the ONT web page during that time, and sometimes it only resets the WAN connection and I can acces the ONT webpage during that time (but interrupts all other Internet communication).
What I have done:
-Changed most of my devices (older cellphones for newer ones, older PC’s for newer ones). Problem persists.
-Disconnected different devices at different times (for example, turned off a tablet for a week, problem persists. Turned off a cellphone for a week, problem persists).
-Did a WiFi reset on all portable android devices. Problem persists.
-Used 3 different Ethernet cables from different brands for wired connections. Problem persists.
-Used no UPS, then 3 different UPS. Problem persists.
-Tried plugin only the device, with no other devices as suggested on other threads on this forum. Problem persists.
-Replaced at least 7 times the device, including the power adapter. Problem persists.
-Used a different Power supply with better output capabilities. Problem persists.
-Had a USB 3.0 hub connected to the PC. Disconnected it. Problem persists.
-Had a physical phone connected to the ONT. Disconnected it. Problem persists.
-Tried using different Ethernet ports on the ONT. Problem persists.
-Tried selecting different WiFi channels. Problem persists.
Is the error caused by a component (cellphone, PC)? Or is it something else?
Maybe I am missing something and maybe a device of mine is causing the error?. However, recently, there was a service outage by the ISP, and my Internet plan changed without advice, so it can be some bad configuration from the ISP?
UPDATE (08/27/2021)
I received ISP support. First, they changed my SSID to see if that helped somehow.
2021-08-18 16:58 [Critical][Config-Log]Terminal:WEB(192.168.100.8),UserName:root,Result:Success,Type:Set,InternetGatewayDevice.LANDevice.WLANConfiguration:1.1,SSID(omitted)_2.4G,SSIDAdvertisementEnabled:1
2021-08-18 16:58 [Critical][Config-Log] Terminal:WEB(192.168.100.8),UserName:root,Result:Success,Type:Set,InternetGatewayDevice.LANDevice.WLANConfiguration:1.5,SSID(omitted)_5G,SSIDAdvertisementEnabled:1
After that, ISP suppport did some tests (mostly to the optical fiber line). After they left, I got the same message error with a new variant:
2021-08-18 16:58 [Error][Alarm-Log] AlarmID:104001,AlarmLevel:Error,Device reset. Cause: [0], Terminal:PM
Today (08/27/2021) I did a test: I unplugged the ONT from the outlet without turning it off to see what error is registered on the ONT. I did it two times:
2021-08-18 16:58 [Error][Alarm-Log] AlarmID:104001,AlarmLevel:Error,Device reset. Cause: System reset after being powered on, Terminal:OTHER
2021-08-18 16:58 [Error][Alarm-Log] AlarmID:104001,AlarmLevel:Error,Device reset. Cause: System reset after being powered on, Terminal:OTHER
From this test:
-It seems the error 104001 is related to the device turning off.
-There are some differences within my issue and the message you get when the device turns off due power outage. When you unplug the ONT, it specifically says: AlarmLevel:Error,Device reset. Cause: System reset after being powered on, Terminal:OTHER while with my issue it says AlarmLevel:Error,Device reset. Cause: [5], Terminal:OTHER
After the test, I did check the wall outlet, UPS’s and ONT power adapter voltage, and they were all within operation range (ONT power adapter was 12.3 V).
Now I am checking the log from yesterday and I am getting some new stuff:
2021-08-18 16:58 [Error][Alarm-Log] AlarmID:104001,AlarmLevel:Error,Device reset. Cause: [0], Terminal:WEB -> this seems to happen when there is a reset request made via ONT webpage.
2021-08-18 16:58 [Error][Alarm-Log] AlarmID:104509,AlarmLevel:Error,Software upgrading.Terminal:OLT
2021-08-18 16:58 [Error][Alarm-Log] AlarmID:104510,AlarmLevel:Error,Software successfully upgraded. Source version: V500R019C10SPC300B902. Target version: V500R020C00SPC310B590.Terminal:OLT
2021-08-18 16:58 [Error][Alarm-Log] AlarmID:104001,AlarmLevel:Error,Device reset. Cause: [0], Terminal:OLT -> this seems to happen when there is a reset request via OLT (e.g. due updates).
2021-08-18 16:58 [Error][Alarm-Log] AlarmID:104001,AlarmLevel:Error,Device reset. Cause: [0], Terminal:PM -> No idea what this refers to. This variant is new for me. I have just got this message and I haven´t seen it on forums/help threads
Recap:
So, in the end, it seems the alarm/error code is related to the device being turned off, not necessarily due a power issue, but now I have different scenarios. Some of them are normal and should happen (e.g. when the device updates), but for some others I have no idea what causes them and If they should be "normal" or no:
1) No message log on user log. -> Sometimes the log doesn’t register the reset. I don’t know why it doesn’t trigger. This happens typically along with scenario 5.
2) AlarmID:104001,AlarmLevel:Error,Device reset. Cause: System reset after being powered on, Terminal:OTHER ->This happens when there is a power outage and the device turns off. It is different from the other scenarios.
3) AlarmID:104001,AlarmLevel:Error,Device reset. Cause: [0], Terminal:WEB ->This seems to happen when there is a reset request via ONT web page (e.g. it happened when the ISP support did a software update and did an ONT reset).
4) AlarmID:104001,AlarmLevel:Error,Device reset. Cause: [0], Terminal:OLT -> This seems to happen when there is a reset request via OLT (e.g. when issuing and updating the ONT software, as seen on some of the previous logs).
5) AlarmID:104001,AlarmLevel:Error,Device reset. Cause: [5], Terminal:OTHER -> This is the typical message I get as well with scenario 1. No idea what causes it.
6) AlarmLevel:Error,Device reset. Cause: [0], Terminal:PM -> This is new for me. I don’t think I have seen this message before on the user log and forums/help threads. No idea what causes it. Got it after ISP support left.
Does anybody know exactly what those values mean? Specifically, the Cause:[0], Cause:[5] and the Terminal: OTHER, Terminal:PM.
Note: It seems the dates and times on the log changes when they are posted, as they all have the same time and date.
UPDATE (08/29/2021)
I did a another test: I connected a router (let's name it secondary router) to the ONT using its own power adapter. Previously (1 year ago) I used the secondary router adapter on the ONT because it had better power delivery capabilities, but even with it, at that time, the ONT did reset.
I connected the ONT and secondary router to the same UPS power outlet, expecting both devices to reset at some point (even at the same time, if it were a faulty power issue). Today (08/29/2021), only the ONT did reset, and the secondary router log shows that the “WAN ethernet link connection was down” i.e. only the ONT had the issue.
Not only that, but before the test (i.e. after the ISP support left) and after it, I am getting the same error with a new variant:
AlarmID:104001,AlarmLevel:Error,Device reset. Cause: [2], Terminal:OTHER
Anybody knows what those values mean? Specifically the Cause: [2] and terminal:OTHER.
