Reboots can be either "cold" (alternatively known as "hard") where the power to the system is physically turned off and back on again, causing an initial boot of the machine, or warm (alternatively known as soft) where the system restarts without the need to interrupt the power.
Troubleshooting Procedure
On the CE12800, CE16800 and CE12800E switches, run the display device command to check whether the switch has only one MPU.
1. If the switch has only one MPU, the switch restarts when the MPU resets. If the switch has two MPUs, the standby MPU can take over the services when the active MPU resets. After the reset, the original active MPU becomes the standby MPU. Therefore, the switch will not restart when one of MPUs resets.
2. Check whether the switch restarts due to a power failure.
Run the display device board reset slot-id command in the diagnosis view to check the cause of the restart. If both the two MPUs record "board cold reset(COLD Reset)" around the time when the switch restarts, the restart is caused by a power failure.
