1. Edge Port

1.1 Basic Concepts

On a switch running STP, after a designated port goes up, it needs to enter the Listening state (15s) and Learning state (15s), before transitioning to the Forwarding state to forward data frames.
Generally, no loop will occur on the port connecting a switch to a PC. The port can directly enter the Forwarding state to forward data frames, improving the working efficiency. You can configure the port as an edge port. An edge port does not participate in spanning tree calculation. It can transition to the Forwarding state immediately after being activated. In addition, whether an edge port is Up or Down does not trigger the STP topology change that will cause generation of TC BPDUs.
If BPDU protection is not configured, an edge port becomes an ordinary port once receiving BPDUs.


1.2 Configuration and Implementation

This function can be enabled on STP-enabled switch's ports connecting to terminals.
