I have this OTN DWDM Link over 8 MDUs. There is a Raman amplifier at the receiver end. if I disconnect a certain wavelength at the transmit end, I get about -7.9 dBm at the receiver (which I understand to be noise). when I connect the back the signal, I get about -0.8 dBm. This gives a difference of about 7.1 dBm.

Then the OSNR shown in the system is 15 dB. I thought it should be in the region of 7 dB. what am I missing?

Dear friend!
You cannot calculate the OSNR value in this way. When the link is normal, the tested OSNR value is the actual value. When the optical fiber is disconnected or not disconnected, the hardware performance of the board(especially the optical amplifier board) is different.
