There are 3 types of OSN9800 subracks, which are:
1. U16/U32/U64, these 3 models are used for electric layer, have centralize cross-connection boards, works with service boards like tributary boards and line boards for OTN service, or boards for SDH/packet services. The cross-connection capacity for each slot of these subracks are 400Gbps OTN service, or 2000Gbps packet service, or 80Gbps SDH service. The difference between them is that they each have 16/32/64 slots for service boards.
2. M24, this is newly introduced subrack. M24 boards is used for electric layer, and has centralize cross-connection boards, too. M24 subrack have 12 big slots, each of them can be used as 2 small slots. The cross-connection capacity for each small slots are 100Gbps OTN service, 40Gbps VC-4 service, and all slots on the whole subrack share 80Gbps VC-3/VC-12 cross-connection capacity.
3. UPS subrack, this subrack is used for optical layer boards, like the muxer/demuxer, amplifiers, also for Transponder boards. In some area, there is also a similar subrack called P18, the difference is this subrack is wider, and have 18 slots for service boards on a DC powered subrack, while the UPS only have 16 slots for service boards on a DC powered subrack.

Subracks are storage devices designed to be placed as part of a standardised 19-inch rack and are often used to house electrical equipment. ... Basically, a rack mount subrack or rack mount chassis is a narrow, smaller rack enclosure used to store and install rack and computer equipment.

Optical subrack is box for splicing and termination - patch panels.

The Automatically Switched Optical Network (ASON) is a new generation of the optical transmission network. The ASON software provided by Huawei can be applied to the OptiX OSN to support the evolution from a traditional network to an ASON network. Such evolution complies with the ITU and IETF ASON/GMPLS-related standards.

Generally, electrical-layer subracks are used to house electrical-layer boards. (such as tributary boards, line boards, and electrical cross-connect boards) The subrack of the can groom ODUk electrical signals. The optical subrack is used to house optical-layer boards. (such as multiplexer/demultiplexer boards, optical amplifier boards, WS boards, FIU boards, and OLP boards) The subrack of the can implement cross-connection grooming of optical-layer signals. Optical-layer boards can be installed in electrical subracks, but electrical-layer boards cannot be installed in optical-layer subracks.

NG WDM uses the LO+L1+L2 three-layer architecture. The LO optical layer supports wavelength multiplexing/demultiplexing and DWDM optical signal adding/dropping. The L1 electrical layer supports cross-connection of ODUKk/VC services. The L2 layer implements Ethernet/MPLS-TP switching.

Optical subracks belong to the L0 layer in the WDM architecture,and optical-layer boards can be installed. The electrical subracks belong to the L1 and L2 layers in the WDM architecture,and electrical-layer boards can be installed(Optical-layer boards can also be installed as hybrid subracks) .


Optical-layer boards are used to process optical-layer services and implement optical-layer grooming based on the 入level.


Electrical-layer boards are used to process electrical-layer signals and perform optical-to-electrical conversion for signals. Crooming granularities at different levels can flexibly schedule electrical-layer signals through the centralized cross-connect unit.
