An Elastic Cloud Server (ECS) is a computing unit that includes virtual CPUs, memory, an operating system and Elastic Volume Service (EVS) disks. After you've established an ECS, you can use it in the cloud in the same way you would a local PC or physical server.

Self-service development, modification and operation are all supported by ECSs. An ECS can be created by selecting its vCPUs, memory, operating system and login authentication. You can change the specs of an ECS after it has been created. ECS collaborates with other services to produce a computing environment that is dependable, secure and efficient.

Depending on the requirements, one may choose among any of these types which offer different performance options. Some of the examples for applications are:

  • frontend clusters;

  • Web servers;

  • scientific and engineering computing;

At the same time, some other requirements for Big Data are:

  • RDS databases;

  • NoSQL databases, including Cassandra, MongoDB and Redis;

The following are the steps involved in the purchasing of an ECS after the configuration.




Here I am going to explain the basic configuration for setting up an Elastic cloud server. These are the steps:

1. Select a billing mode.

 The first step in the configuration is the selection of the mode for billing, which could be chosen from the following:


2. Verify the location.

 If the region is incorrect, correct it by clicking in the upper left corner of the page.

3. Select an AZ

An AZ is a physical region where the power and the networks are physically isolated. AZs in the same region can communicate with each other over an intranet.

a) Create ECSs in separate AZs to improve application availability.

b) Create ECSs in the same AZ to reduce network latency.

4. CPU Architecture


Complex Instruction Set Computing is used in the x86-based CPU architecture (CISC). Low-level hardware operations can be performed with each instruction. The number of instructions is huge and each one varies in length. As a result, carrying out such an instruction is complex and time-consuming.


Reduced Instruction Set Computing is used in the Kunpeng-based CPU design (RISC). A RISC microprocessor executes fewer types of computer instructions, but at a faster rate than a CISC microprocessor. RISC simplifies computer architecture while increasing performance. The Kunpeng-based CPU design has a better mix of performance and power consumption than the x86-based CPU architecture. Kunpeng can be distinguished by its high density-low power consumption and excellent cost-effectiveness.

5. Set the specifications. 

Diverse ECS kinds are available in the public cloud for various application scenarios. In the list, you can see all of the ECS types and flavors that have been introduced. Alternatively, you can search for a flavor by entering a flavor (such as c3) or specifying vCPUs and RAM capacity.

7. Set the System Disk Or/And the Data Disk.

 EVS disks and DSS disks are differentiated by whether or not the storage resources used by the disks are dedicated. You can employ dedicated storage resources using DSS disks:

  • if you've requested a storage pool on the DSS page, go to the DSS tab and create the disks in the storage pool you were given.

  • if a dedicated storage pool has not been requested, go to the Disks tab and create EVS disks that use public storage resources.

Disk for the system

The system disk of an ECS is not encrypted if the image on which it is produced is not encrypted. If the image from which an ECS is produced is encrypted, the ECS's system disk is encrypted as well. See this page for further information (Optional) Encryption-r is a program that encrypts data.

Disk with data

For an ECS, you can build numerous data disks and enable sharing and encryption for each of them. You can add up to 24 disks with custom sizes to an ECS when constructing it. You can add up to 60 disks to a freshly formed ECS after it has been built.
