The mobile network functional architecture has traditionally been divided into two main components:RAN and CN.
With the current trend of network softwarization, the decomposition and the subsequent centralization of monolithic NFs, the border between these two components in 5G may not be as sharp as it was in previous generations.
This certainly provides advantages when enabling the novel concepts described in the previous section, but it also entails a set of new challenges that have to be addressed by the new E2E architecture and the modules that will provide these functionalities.
