Hello, team!

What is dynamic resource scheduling?

What are DRS's characteristics?

What scenarios does DRS apply to?

Thanks!

Hello, dear!

Have a nice day!

The DRS, using the intelligent load balancing scheduling algorithm and dynamic power management, periodically checks the load on various hosts in a cluster and migrates VMs to achieve load balancing on the hosts in the cluster.

DRS

Technical feature

  • Automatically balance the load of the VMs in a cluster based on scheduling policy.

  • Use a proper scheduling algorithm that considers VM load changes, preventing repeated VM migration between hosts.

  • Provide the unique scheduling baseline setting function, preventing repeated VM migration between hosts.

  • Configure an exception item, such as no scheduling or manual scheduling, for the VM with special requirements.

  • Allow administrators to perform manual scheduling and periodic automated scheduling based on policies.

  • Support the configuration of a scheduling policy daily, weekly, or monthly.

Application scenarios & customer benefits

  • This feature applies to scenarios where VM loads continuously change with sudden fluctuations, and better performance experience is required.

  • VMs are dynamically scheduled to balance the host resource usages, compute capability is fully utilized, and the service system running on each VM is more efficient.

The Dynamic Resource Scheduler (DRS) is supported. The DRS, using the intelligent load balancing scheduling algorithm and dynamic power management, periodically checks the load on various hosts in a cluster and migrates VMs to achieve load balancing on the hosts in the cluster.

DRS uses intelligent scheduling algorithms to periodically monitor the workload on hosts in a cluster and migrates VMs between the hosts based on the workload to achieve load balancing. This feature collaborates with the dynamic power management (DPM) to increase resource utilization and reduce power consumption.

When the system is lightly loaded, the system migrates some VMs to one or more physical hosts and powers off the idle hosts.

When the system is heavily loaded, the system starts some VMs and physical hosts and allocates VMs evenly on hosts to ensure resource supply.

Scheduled tasks can be set to enable different resource scheduling policies at different times based on the system running status to meet user requirements in different scenarios.

There is another post about DRS, see What is Dynamic Resource Scheduler(DRS)?
