[Dr. WoW] Q&A: In what scenarios does persistent connection need to be configured? How can I configure persistent connection?

For some special services, for example, when a user downloads a large file using FTP, the interval between two consecutive packets of a session may be longer than the FTP session aging time. In this case, the user needs to reconnect to the FTP server, affecting user experience.

If the aging time of such a protocol is directly prolonged, the sessions that also belong to this protocol but do not need a long aging time cannot age as expected. As a result, a large number of session resources are occupied, the performance deteriorates, and sessions cannot be established for other services.

You can configure security policy–based persistent connection to set an overlong aging time for the special service traffic. The FW supports persistent connection only for TCP.

1.       Run the security-policy command in the system view to enter the security policy view.

2.      Run the rule name rule-name command to create a security policy rule and enter the rule view.

3.       Run the long-link enable command to enable persistent connection.

4.      Run the long-link aging-time interval command to set the aging time of persistent connection.

The aging time of the session corresponding to the service traffic that matches the specified security policy is set to the persistent connection aging time.

Using the USG6000&USG9500 V500R005C20 as an example, for details about how to configure a persistent connection, see Configuring a Persistent Connection.
