Hello there, everyone!
This post is about a double NAT issue on the 5G CPE Pro router. Please see more details as you read further down.
ISSUE DESCRIPTION
I've a 5G CPE Pro router on Vodafone UK's new 5G network. My situation is that I need to daisy chain a second router off the CPE Pro in such a way that I avoid double NAT - I need to leave DHCP enabled on the second router. I've checked and the firmware is up-to-date. The two routers are issuing IP addresses in two separate non-overlapping ranges.
The first thing I looked at was enabling bridge mode on the CPE Pro. I can't find any configuration for bridge mode so that's a non-starter. Why doesn't it support this fairly standard feature? Can anyone tell me if there are plans in the near future to add it? Before I return the router to Vodafone in the next few days?
I also noticed that there's nowhere to set the IPV4 subnet mask - again, a strange omission of a fairly standard feature, can anyone tell me if there are plans in the near future to add it?
My second approach was to configure the CPE Pro's DMZ, selecting the second router as the DMZ in the settings. There are some supposedly authoratitive articles on the web that say this will work. It doesn't in this instance. The machines attached to the second router don't have a good connection. DNS resolution works, ping works, other network traffic to the internet is broken.
Simply daisy chaining the second router obviously doesn't work - I get classic double NAT - DNS resolution works, ping works, other network traffic to the internet is broken.
Any suggestions before I phone Vodafone to return this? How could I solve this double NAT issue on the 5G CPE Pro router? Thanks!
