Documentation and me in 2018

First of all, I would like to congratulate everyone – the Huawei technical staff and all people associated with this event directly or indirectly. This wonderful initiative is equally beneficial for partners, engineers, project managers and the Huawei Documentation team.

My name is Yogendra Jain, and I work as a Project Manager at Brightstar telecommunication India Limited. We are a top-ranking 5-star CSP partner of Huawei and approaching 5-star ASP level.

I have more than 13 years of experience in the telecom domain. Working in the IP domain for the last 10 years, I participated in ISP, PSU, and governance projects using versatile OEMS products like Cisco, Brocade, Huawei and juniper. I have also been blessed with more than 10 technical certifications in the IP domain.

We have had a wonderful association with Huawei for more than 6 years, and I have been personally working on Huawei product lines for more than 4 years.

During my association with Huawei I have earned valuable certifications, like HCIE, HCNP, HCS, HCPA and many more. I was one of the top 15 people in India who earned the HCIE IP certification. It was a proud moment for me and my organization.

I have learned a lot from the website, community group, seminars, and trainings… and this journey will go on. I participated in HCIE Nights Bangkok last year and got the chance to meet the Huawei leadership team.

Luckily, I won the top prize at the event.

What Huawei product documentation do I use in the course of my work?
I usually visit the Huawei website on daily basis to learn about the concepts involved in IP technologies (the entire AR and NE series), wireless domains, and security domains.

I usually download the datasheets, configuration documents, IP tools (eNSP, eDesk, EOM, EOFS, EOS, hardware configuration tools, UniSTAR SCT, migration tools, product comparisons… The list goes on.

Mobile Tools: The Huawei Tech Support, 3DLive +, and HiKnow tools are user friendly, and have earned good awards, in addition to Enactor, etc.

The Live Chat and iKnow tools are amazing, and I have some feedback on them: I have been a regular user of Live Chat since day one when it launched, and got many solutions through it, but for basic/L1 support, if a problem does not get resolved, there is no L2 support available. A representative suggested opening another ticket, which is a time-consuming process. Please provide support by assigning a few employees to L2 support for speedy problem resolution.

When do I use Huawei product documentation?
Being a part of project management team, I need to tackle different vertical customers like ISPs and customers in the public sector and government sector. I usually use Huawei documentation during project implementation, solution design (SCT and Wi-Fi Planner), post-sales support, corporate/in-house training, career certification, end customer document sharing… and again, the list goes on.

I have attended more than 20 trainings in the Huawei Delhi India office as well as participated in enabling/training customers through more than 10 training deliveries. The Huawei tools presentation delivered by Mr. Huang Shun (00350168) in our India office was quite valuable.

How do Huawei product documentation help me solve problems?
The Huawei Documentation part is very useful, and the best part is the configuration examples, which are equal in weight to the theory/conceptual parts. The best way to learn a concept is through practical examples as well as interactive video modules. Huawei knows this learning technique and I am grateful for this.

Documents are categorized well according to software versions and hardware patches. We can evaluate the theory part through eNSP tools before sharing it with end customers.

The Huawei Forum is playing an important role by providing ongoing solutions, because we can’t always wait for expert advice by opening a ticket or studying the manuals.

The Huawei online courses are adding knowledge sharing and the latest technologies and market updates. I am active member of below groups and these groups knowledge sharing boosted up my confidence .

What case studies can I share with other users?
I believe in learning and sharing, although sharing knowledge is only one part of learning.

So, whatever updates I receive from Huawei emails, portals, websites, online & offline training based on software, patch updates, EOS, EOF, the addition of new tools and solutions, added changes, Hardware updates, Huawei promotions, certification alerts, online courses, and information about new technologies like Wi-Fi 6, 5G Networks, and NGN… I share it all with end customers and colleagues by email or interactive training sessions.

If I could talk to the Huawei documentation experts, what would I say to them? How do you do and how are you doing such fantastic work? :) Huawei's growth rate in last decade is very impressive, and this is only because of the dedication and hard work of individual departments. Huawei's position among Fortune 500 companies is superb, and the team is believing in and building their own ENP chipset that enables the VRP platform, and also believing in Greed Device Concepts.

I wish to be part of this team; I would like to learn the technical concepts and discuss upcoming technologies and how the team will face challenges.

What recommendations do I have to improve Huawei documentation?
Team Documentation is doing fabulous job and we are very satisfied with the documentation part.

We have few suggestions:
• Although tools are working well, being a 5-star CSP partner, we don’t have full rights to use them. Please make them available. More improvements are required in the command conversion tool, such as converting from Cisco to Huawei. It is currently not very efficient compared to other tools.
• Most of the webpages are in Chinese only or the conversions are not up to date, and are not particularly interactive.
• We are looking for some L2 engineers on Huawei live chat to resolve the issue quickly without opening a ticket. It will save valuable time for all of us.

Still, my love story with Huawei is never-ending. I am putting down my pen here and wishing all the best to the Huawei Documentation team for the year 2019. Keep growing!
