This post describes the differences between virtualization and the private Cloud. Please find them by reading further down.
Virtualization is a technology that simulates hardware in software. The virtualization technology abstracts multiple physical devices into a logical device through software definition and then abstracts it into multiple logical devices to implement refined resource configuration.
These virtualized devices are as complex as physical devices in terms of configuration, management and usage. They need to be configured by professional technical personnel, which has a high professional threshold. This pattern can make computing and other resource allocation more flexible, more reliable, easier to expand and upgrade.
The Cloud is based on the virtualization technology. It encapsulates various IT resources through servitization, reducing the difficulty of configuration, management and use.
In this way, non-professionals can apply for and use the resources. The private Cloud combines the features of the Cloud and the IT management process of the enterprise to help enterprises achieve the following objectives:
Tenants can quickly, flexibly, and on-demand services through self-service user interfaces and policy-based management;
- Efficiently allocate resources based on tenant requirements;
- Improve the visibility and controllability of the entire infrastructure to achieve intelligent operation and O&M.
- Based on the characteristics of the private cloud IT management and organization model, improve the IT management capability of enterprises and reduce the IT use cost and construction cost;
- Integrated operation, implementing agile service development, quick launch, and iterative upgrade.
To sum up, the problems of virtualization and private Cloud are different in solving traditional enterprise IT problems.
1. The usage of various resources in the data center is low and the average usage is generally 10%~20%.
2. The management, organization and application systems of customers are independent of each other. From the perspective of infrastructure, they are isolated islands. It is difficult to consider the rationality of resource allocation integration and usage from the perspective of the overall IT infrastructure. Infrastructure is closely related to applications, organization processes and management and O&M and cannot be abstracted into standards and platforms.
3. Traditional data center resources are configured, deployed and maintained in manual mode. There is no platform to support the resource configuration, deployment and maintenance, which consumes a lot of human resources.
Virtualization solves the resource utilization of problem 1. It is recommended that virtualization products be used to optimize enterprise resources only when the traditional physical resource pool is used low.
In addition to resource utilization, private Clouds help enterprises solve problems 2 and 3, helping enterprises transform from traditional IT to digital cloudification.
