Hi there,

We are searching an ethernet interface card to expand our AR6000 router. And I find two cards, card 8FE1GE and card 9ES2. Both provide 8 100BASE-RJ45 ports and 1 1000BASE-RJ45 port.

From the documentation, card 8FE1GE cannot create the VLANIF interface while card 9ES2 could. Then, does this mean that card 8FE1GE only supports connecting the devices in the same network? Or where should the gateway be created for the connected devices on 8FE1GE?

Here is the documentation link: https://support.huawei.com/enterprise/en/doc/EDOC1100041787/9860f793/8fe1ge-8-port-100m-rj451-port-1000m-rj45-l2-ethernet-electrical-interface-card

Thanks.

Hi @ViktorJr,
As you said, 9ES2 support creating VLANIF interface on the card itself, while 8FE1GE cannot. The difference doesn’t mean that 8FE1GE card cannot connect devices in different network.
Actually, when the card 8FE1GE inserted, and the vlanif interface created, the vlanif interface is created on the router itself, rather than on the card. In other words, you might consider the 8FE1GE card as an addon of the router, while 9ES2 is a small router which coorpate with the router which inserting the card.

Hi user!

8FE1GE provides Ethernet access for medium- and small-scale enterprises and enterprise branches, and supports Layer 2 line-rate switching and device management. It provides eight FE interfaces and one GE interface, which can connect to office terminals, PCs, IP phones, and switches.

An 8FE1GE card can be installed in a WSIC slot of a router.

The 9ES2 card provides eight FE electrical interfaces and one GE electrical interface. This card is installed in a WSIC slot and provides line-rate Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching and device management functions.
