Hey Everyone,

Just want to open small discussion about DHCP Server.

we can see many people configure DHCP Server on their Core Swicth and some people use it on firewall.

Which you you suggest and why?

That's really depends on size and requirement of a network if you ask me the best choice is to have a dedicated server but if you are lacking in resources and investment then you will go for the switch because Firewall is not suggested to have this type of service.
DHCP is more towarda broadcast domain it's better to have a switch dedicated for it

Exactly, a dedicated server is better to have.
Agree with @BAZ , besides, for a large-scale network, the DHCP server usually is enabled on the independent device.

Hi bro,

I think regardless of which DHCP server you use, strongly consider using the Reservation feature to use the DHCP server configuration as an "authoritative" list for IP address assignment. Embedded devices that can extract DHCP (print servers, switches, APs, etc.) typically configure them as DHCP and create "reserved" IP addresses associated with their MAC addresses. If the device cannot extract DHCP, or if it makes no sense to configure a given device using DHCP, such as a server, a "reservation" is still created. (Comment in any comment field to indicate that it is actually a static address assignment) so that the DHCP configuration includes all address assignments in the subnet.

If organization size is small, go for DHCP on CS but if its a medium to large organization, go for a dedicated server. It will not only be easy to manage but also be more convenient in longer run.

Hello great friend! This question depends on the size of the network and the environment to be implemented, the number of users and equipment, it is usually configured on the core switch if it is not a very large network, in the case of larger networks, the exclusive dhcp server is currently used. I believe that this is the way. Kind regards
