DHCP Select Global or DHCP Select Interface?..... Which one to choose according to its advantages and disadvantages.

Hello everyone in the community.


So far there have been many posts and comments on how to Configure a DHCP server on Routers and Switches. As far as I'm concerned, I've done it both ways and it's worked fine for me, no problem; but the question is the following:


What are the Advantages and Disadvantages of both configuration methods? and which one to choose?

Hi EdelChino,
Global address pool: The global address pool can be applied to any interface of the device and all information in the address pool can be configured independently.
Interface address pool: This function can be enabled only on a port configured with an IP address. The gateway name and address pool name are fixed. The network segment of the address pool is the network segment of the interface address. Cannot apply to other interfaces.
The biggest difference is that the global address pool can specify a gateway, but the interface address pool cannot specify a gateway. Only the interface address can be used as the gateway.
