On a VXLAN network in a data center, VXLAN tunnels are established by two tunnel endpoints (NVE).


In the network overlay networking, all VXLAN overlay tunnel end points are deployed on hardware switches.

In the hybrid overlay networking, VXLAN overlay tunnel end points are deployed on both hardware and software switches. That is, the ingress and egress of a VXLAN tunnel can be hardware or software.
