Description
The system detects the data store usage every 5 minutes. This alarm is generated when the data store usage is greater than or equal to the specified alarm threshold.
This alarm is cleared when the data store usage is less than the minor alarm threshold.
After this alarm is generated, do not write data into this data store to prevent data writing failure due to insufficient storage space.
Impact on the System
Too high data store usage adversely affects storage performance. If storage space is insufficient, no storage resource is available. If the storage resource is used up, VM data cannot be written to the storage device, and the VMs are automatically paused.
If VMs are paused, time-sensitive services are adversely affected. You can restart the VMs or restart related software.
If VMs are paused, functions provided by the VMs are unavailable.
After a VM is resumed, it may become unresponsive. You can restart the VM to handle this issue.
Possible Causes
The alarm thresholds for the data store usage are too low.
An excessive amount of storage is used, resulting in storage space insufficiency.
Procedure
In the navigation tree on the left, click .
Choose . Locate the row that contains the alarm and click the name in the Alarm Object column.
The Storage page is displayed.
Click the Summary tab to check whether the data store type is virtualized SAN storage.
If yes, go to 5.
If no, go to 7.
Expand capacity for the data store.
After 5 to 10 minutes, check whether the alarm is cleared.
If yes, no further action is required.
If no, go to 7.
In the navigation tree on the left, click .
Choose .
If yes, go to 9.
If no, go to 11.
After 5 to 6 minutes, choose , and check whether the alarm is cleared.
If yes, no further action is required.
If no, go to 11.
In the navigation tree on the left, click .
Choose . Locate the row that contains the alarm and make a note of and click the name in the Alarm Object column.
The Storage page is displayed.
Delete unwanted disks from the data store until the data store usage is less than the adjusted minor alarm threshold.
On the Storage page, click alarm objects recorded in 11, select unwanted disks from Disk List in which disks created from the data store are contained, and choose to release the storage space.
On the Details page, use the following formula to calculate the data store usage: (Total Capacity - Actual Available Capacity)/Total Capacity.
After 5 or 6 minutes, check whether the alarm is cleared
