A PoE-powered AP fails to be started
If an AP powered by a PoE switch fails to start, perform the following operations to locate the fault: 1. Check whether the PoE switch complies with the PoE power supply standard specified in Product Description of the AP. If the PoE switch does not comply with the standard, use a PoE switch that complies with the standard. If a Huawei PoE switch is used, run the display poe power command in the system view to check the power supply standard specified by the USMPW field in the command output. The value 15400 indicates that the PoE switch complies with 802.3af, and the value 30000 indicates that the compliance with 802.3at. 2. Check whether the switch is grounded properly. 3. Check whether the PoE function is enabled on the switch. For example, if a Huawei PoE switch is used, run the display poe power-state interface gigabitEthernet 0/0/3 command in the system view to check whether the PoE function is enabled on GE0/0/3. If the Port power enabled field displays Enable, the PoE function has been enabled on the interface. If the PoE function is disabled, run the poe enable command in the interface view to enable the PoE function. 4. Check whether the remaining output power of the switch meets the AP's requirements. If not, increase the switch's power or power off unused PDs on the switch. If a Huawei PoE switch is used, run the display poe information command in the system view to check the remaining output power specified by the Available Total Power field. For an AP in compliance with 802.3af/3at, the remaining output power of the switch must be greater than or equal to 15400 mW. For an AP in compliance with 802.3at, the remaining output power of the switch must be greater than or equal to 30000 mW. 5. Check whether the PSE chip on the switch is compatible with the PD chip on the AP. You can power on the AP forcibly, or install patches after confirming with Huawei technical support personnel. If a Huawei S23XX/S27XX PoE switch is connected to an AP in V100R003, their chips may be incompatible with each other. You can use either of the following methods to solve the problem: Run the poe force-power command in the interface view to power on the AP forcibly. Install the V100R005SPH015 patch. 6. Check whether the network cable meets the requirements of the PoE power supply standard. The total cable resistance is no more than 20 ohms according to IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at Type 1, and no more than 12.5 ohms according to IEEE 802.3at Type 2. If the network cable does not comply with the PoE power supply standard, replace the network cable. Use a network cable tester or multimeter to measure the resistance at both ends of the network cable. Alternatively, connect the network cable to an AP at one end, and use a multimeter at the other end to test the resistance between pins 1 and 2 (or between pins 3 and 4, 5 and 6, or 7 and 8). The cable resistance approximately equals the half of the displayed value. If an AP powered using a PoE adapter fails to be started and the network cable is connected properly, perform a cross test to check whether the PoE adapter is faulty. If the PoE adapter works properly, contact the Huawei technical personnel.
