Viewing IP addresses of STAs that are obtained dynamically

8

On an AC or a Fat AP, run the following command to view STA IP addresses that are dynamically obtained:
- If the IP addresses are assigned from an interface address pool, run the display ip pool interface interface-pool-name used command.
If the IP addresses are assigned from a global address pool, run the display ip pool name ip-pool-name used command.
- To view access information about all STAs, run the display station all command.

You can know the IP address assigned to each STA based on the mapping between IP addresses and MAC addresses.

Check IP addresses dynamically allocated to clients
On S series switches except S1700 switches, you can view IP addresses that have been dynamically assigned to users as follows: - If an interface address pool is used, run the display ip pool interface interface-pool-name used command. - If a global address pool is used, run the display ip pool name ip-pool-name used command. You can obtain the IP address used by each user according to the mapping between IP addresses and MAC addresses in the command output.

Method used to configure DHCP client on the AR
The AR can function as a DHCP client to dynamically obtain configuration parameters such as an IP address from a DHCP server. This reduces the configuration costs and the errors and facilitates centralized management. Assume that RouterA functions as the DHCP client and RouterB as the DHCP server. The configuration is as follows: 1. Configure RouterA. [HUAWEI] dhcp enable //Enable the DHCP function. [HUAWEI] interface GigabitEthernet0/0/0 [HUAWEI-GigabitEthernet0/0/0] ip address dhcp-alloc //Enable the DHCP client on an interface. [HUAWEI-GigabitEthernet0/0/0] quit 2. Configure RouterB. [HUAWEI] dhcp enable //Enable the DHCP function. [HUAWEI] ip pool p1 [HUAWEI-ip-pool-p1] gateway-list 10.202.1.1 //Configure the gateway IP address. [HUAWEI-ip-pool-p1] network 10.202.1.0 mask 255.255.255.0 //Specify the range of IP addresses that can be dynamically allocated in the global address pool. [HUAWEI-ip-pool-p1] quit [HUAWEI] interface GigabitEthernet0/0/0 [HUAWEI-GigabitEthernet0/0/0] ip address 10.202.1.1 255.255.255.0 [HUAWEI-GigabitEthernet0/0/0] dhcp select global //Configure the global address pool mode. 3. Verify the configuration. Run the display ip interface brief command on RouterA to view the IP address that GE0/0/0 has obtained.

DHCP client configuration on S series switch
S series switches except S1700 switches can function as DHCP clients to obtain network parameters such as IP addresses from a DHCP server. Using DHCP reduces the manual configuration workload and misoperations and facilitates centralized device management for administrators. For details about how to configure DHCP clients, see "Example for Configuring the DHCP Clients" in Typical Configuration Examples.

DHCP clients fail to obtain IP addresses from the DHCP server on the AR
The causes that DHCP clients fail to obtain IP addresses from the DHCP server are as follows: - The configuration is incorrect. - There is no allocable IP address in the DHCP address pool. - STP is enabled on upper-level access devices of some diskless workstations. For details on troubleshooting and solutions, see AR150&AR160&AR200&AR510&AR1200&AR2200&AR3200 FAQ.
About the AR ClientExceptions occurs when the IP address is obtained. For details, see the Revelations of Troublesolving on the right page.

How do I check IP addresses that are dynamically obtained by an AR
On the AR, you can run the following command to check the IP address that is dynamically obtained. - If IP addresses are assigned based on the interface address pool, run the display ip pool interface interface-pool-name used command. If the IP addresses are assigned based on the global address pool, run the display ip pool name ip-pool-name used command. You can know the IP address assigned to each client based on the mapping between IP addresses and MAC addresses.
