How do I configure AP mode switching

5

An AP can switch between the Fat mode and Fit mode. APs in V200R003 or later support the Fat mode, and APs in different versions do not support mode switching. To switch a Fit AP in V200R002 to a Fat AP, first upgrade the Fit AP to V200R003. To switch a Fat AP to a Fit AP in V200R002, first switch the Fat AP to a Fit AP in V200R003, and then roll the Fit AP back to V200R002.

Before configuring AP mode switching, run the upgrade upgrade-assistant-package command in the diagnostic view to upgrade the upgrade assistant package. The upgrade assistant package is not supported by the AD9430DN-24, AD9430DN-12, AP9130DN, AP8030DN, and AP8130DN.

To switch a Fat AP to a Fit AP, perform the following operations:

1. Upload the system software package of a Fit AP to an FTP, SFTP, or TFTP server (taking the system software package AP6010DN_V200R005C00.bin and FTP server IP address 10.23.1.1 as an example).

2. Run the system-view command to enter the system view.

(For the AP8030DN and AP8130DN, skip step 3 and go to step 4.)

3. Run the ap-mode-switch check command to check whether the file system allows a Fat AP to be switched to a Fit AP..

Note: If the check fails, do not perform the following steps. Otherwise, the AP's file system may be damaged, causing an AP startup failure.

4. Run the ap-mode-switch ftp AP6010DN_V200R005C00.bin 10.23.1.1 admin admin command to switch the system file of the Fat AP to that of the Fit AP using the FTP server.

After the command is executed, the AP restarts and the mode switching is complete.

3. Run the ap-mode-switch prepare command to change the file system status to allow a Fit AP to be switched to a Fat AP.

For more information, see "Fat AP Upgrade Guide" of the appropriate version. Taking V200R005C10SPC700 as an example, to switch the AP mode, see Switching a Fit AP to a Fat AP and Switching a Fat AP to a Fit AP in FAT AP V200R005C10SPC700

How many AP upgrade modes are available? How do I set the AP upgrade mode
Currently, three AP upgrade modes are available: AC loading, FTP loading and SFTP loading. 1. AC loading: The target version file of the AP is saved on the AC. During loading, the AC sends the target version file to the AP using CAPWAP. 2. FTP loading: The target version file of the AP is saved on the FTP server. During loading, the AP logs in to the FTP server and obtains the target version file. 3. SFTP loading: The target version file of the AP is saved on the SFTP server. During loading, the AP logs in to the SFTP server and obtains the target version file. Run the ap-update mode { ftp-mode | ac-mode | sftp-mode } command in WLAN mode to set the AP upgrade mode. There are three upgrade modes that care AC, FTP and SFTP.

How can I know an AP's working mode
An AP can work in Fit or Fat mode. After logging in to an AP, run the display version command to view the AP model and working mode. For an AP that supports only one mode, you can identify its working mode through its model. - APs that support only the Fat mode: AP9130DN -- APs that support only the Fit mode: AP2010DN, AP2030DN, AP6310SN, AP7110SN, AP7030DE, AP9330DN, R230D, R240D, and AP4030DN-E
