How to log in to the device on AR routers for the first time through a console port
When you log in to the device through the console port, you need to install the terminal access software on the local PC (such as SecureCRT software) and set parameters of the terminal simulation software. After the login succeeds, you can configure the following parameters based on the requirements:
- Set the system date, time and time zone.
- Set the device name and management IP address.
- Set other login modes.
For example, after a user logs in through the console port for the first time, the configuration of remote login through Telnet is as follows:
1. Set the system date, time, and time zone.
clock timezone BJ add 08:00:00
clock datetime 20:10:00 2012-07-26
2. Set the device name and management IP address
[Huawei] sysname Server
[Server] interface gigabitethernet 0/0/0
[Server-GigabitEthernet0/0/0] ip address 24
[Server-GigabitEthernet0/0/0] quit
3. Set the level and authentication mode of the Telnet user
[Server] telnet server enable
[Server] user-interface vty 0 4
[Server-ui-vty0-4] user privilege level 15
[Server-ui-vty0-4] authentication-mode aaa
[Server-ui-vty0-4] quit
[Server] aaa
[Server-aaa] local-user admin1234 password irreversible-cipher Helloworld@6789
[Server-aaa] local-user admin1234 privilege level 15
[Server-aaa] local-user admin1234 service-type telnet
[Server-aaa] quit

Why do I fail to log in to the AR through the console interface
Use the following method:
1. Check whether parameter settings on the console interface are correct.
   - Baud rate: 9600
   - Data bit: 8
   - Stop bit: 1
   - Parity check: none
   - Flow control: none
2. Check whether the console cable is securely connected. If necessary, replace the current cable with a new one to check whether the cable is faulty.
3.  By default, no flow control mode is configured on an AR. Because RTS/CTS is selected in the software by default, you need to deselect RTS/CTS; otherwise, you cannot enter commands.

Logging in to the USG through the console interface
Perform the following operations to log in to the USG through the console interface: 1. Use the Windows XP HyperTerminal of a PC to log in to the USG through a console interface to manage the device. By default, the authentication mode for the login to the USG through the console interface is AAA. The user name is admin, and the password is Admin@123. Note: If you fail to log in for consecutively three times, the system automatically locks the web UI for 10 minutes. Procedure: a. Connect desired devices, power on them, and ensure that they run properly. b. Choose Start > All Programs > Accessories > Communication > HyerTerminal to start the terminal simulation program (for example, Windows XP HyerTerminal) on the PC. The Connection Description dialog box is displayed. c. In Name, enter the name of the connection between the PC and the USG, for example, COMM1. Select any of the icons. d. Click OK. The Connect To dialog box is displayed. e. From the Connect using drop-down list, select the serial port connecting the PC to the USG, such as, COM1. f. Click OK. The COM1 Properties dialog box is displayed. g: Set the communication parameters of the interface. Note: The communications parameters of the terminal port must be consistent with those of the console port of the USG. Set the baudrate to 9600 bit/s. Other communication parameters adopt their default values. h. Click OK or Restore to default value (R). i. Proceed to the emulation program page, and press Enter. According to the authentication mode configured on the USG, enter the user name and password as prompted. The user view is displayed. The default user name is admin, and the default password is Admin@123. 2. Log in to the CLI through the console port based on the PuTTY. Before logging in to the CLI through the console port, connect a PC to the console port on the NGFW Module through a console cable. Procedure: a. Configure the PC. The following example describes the configuration using the free HyperTerminal software PuTTY on Windows 7. b. Download the PuTTY software to the PC and double-click it to run the software. c. Select Session and set Connection type to Serial. d. After setting other parameters, click Open. e. Press Enter and enter the default administrator account admin and password Admin@123. Note: After three consecutive login failures, the system automatically locks out the account (prohibiting its login) for 10 minutes. f. Change the password of the default administrator account and enter the CLI. Note: For security, the password must meet the minimum complexity requirement. That is, the password must contain three of the following, including upper-case letters (A to Z), lower-case letters (a to z), digits (0 to 9), and special characters (such as !, @, #, $, and %). Remember the new password for future logins.
