Precautions to be taken when the DHCP relay is configured on an S series switch

1

When configuring the DHCP relay on an S series switch, pay attention to the following points:
- Create a DHCP server group and configure the IP address of the DHCP server in the DHCP sever group view.
- Enter the VLANIF interface view, configure an IP address for the VLANIF interface, configure the VLANIF interface as the DHCP relay agent, and specify the DHCP server group.
- VLANIF 1 does not support the DHCP relay function; therefore, the DHCP relay configuration commands are unavailable in the view of VLANIF 1. In addition, the DHCP relay function can be configured on other VLANIF interfaces.

Precautions to be taken when VRRP and DHCP relay is configured on an S series switch
When configuring the DHCP relay and VRRP on an S series switch, pay attention to the following points: f multiple VRRP groups are configured on the VLANIF interface enabled with the DHCP relay, you are advised to determine the gateway address for DHCP clients during the networking. The gateway address must be the virtual IP address of a VRRP group. After determining the gateway address, configure the IP address by running the dhcp server group command. Method to configure the DHCP relay on S series switches
For S series switches excluding the S1700, when the DHCP client and the DHCP server are located on different network segments, configure a DHCP relay agent to assist the DHCP server in allocating IP addresses to DHCP clients. There is no difference of the DHCP relay configuration between all versions and models of Huawei S series switches.

DHCP relay configuration notes on S series switch
Note the following points when configuring DHCP relay on S series switches: - Configure a DHCP server group, then configure the DHCP server address in the view of the DHCP server group. - Enter the VLAN virtual interface view, configure an IP address for the VLAN virtual interface, configure the VLAN virtual interface as the DHCP relay agent, and specify the DHCP server group. - VLAN virtual interface 1 does not support the DHCP relay function; therefore, the DHCP relay configuration commands are unavailable in the view of VLAN virtual interface 1, but are available in the view of other VLAN virtual interfaces.

Configure DHCP relay on S series switch
For S series switches (except S1700 switches), when the DHCP server and clients are on different network segments, you can configure a DHCP relay agent to help the DHCP server allocate network parameters to DHCP clients. For S series switches, the DHCP relay agent configuration is the same on all switch models in all versions. For details, see "Example for Configuring the Device as a DHCP Relay (on the Same Network)" and "Example for Configuring the Device as a DHCP Relay (Across a GRE Tunnel)" in Typical Configuration Examples.
