Why an interface can be configured as both optical and electrical interfaces

When a 1000M optical interface connects to an electrical module, it works as an electrical interface. However, the interface retains the configuration of the optical interface. When configuration is performed on the electrical interface, the interface has the configurations of both optical and electrical interfaces. When you remove the electrical module and connect the 1000M optical interface to an optical module, the 1000M optical interface works as an optical interface. However, the interface retains the configuration of the electrical interface. The configurations of optical and electrical interfaces do not conflict. Before deleting the electrical interface configuration from the 1000M optical interface, you must connect the 1000M optical interface to an electrical module.

A combo interface is a multiplexing interface and can connect to optical or electrical media. You can differentiate the physical configuration including the rate, duplex mode, auto-negotiation, and flow control according to port media type fiber/copper in the configuration file. By default, a combo interface adapts to the optical or electrical media. The media configuration is delivered automatically to the combo interface and the combo interface configuration and the media configuration do not conflict. Before deleting the media configuration, switch the combo interface to work in media mode.
NOTE:
You can run the combo-port { copper | fiber } command to configure the interface to work as an electrical or optical interface. If the combo interface works as an electrical interface, run the combo-port fiber command to configure the interface to work as an optical interface. If the combo interface switches to another operation mode, the original configuration exits but does not work.
