Does the license need to be loaded or activated again after an S serieS series switches restarts

1

For an S series (except the S1700) switch:
- When the switch is powered off, restarted, or upgraded, you do not need to apply for, load, or activate the license again because the license status is automatically recovered.
- After a license is loaded or activated, the switch does not need to be restarted.

No.

License support on S series switch
S series switches support licenses as follows: Among S series fixed switches, only S5720HI switches in V200R006C00 and later versions support license files.(The S5720HI can increase the number of IPv4 FIB entries or connected APs by loading different licenses.) All S series modular switches support license files.

Functions available only after licenses are loaded to S series switch
S series fixed switches: In V200R007 and earlier versions, fixed switches, except S5720HI, do not support license files. All functions are available without the need of license. The S5720HI can increase the number of IPv4 FIB entries or connected APs by loading different licenses. In V200R007, the SVF function is provided by S5720HI after a license is loaded. Other basic functions do not need licenses. S series modular switches: The MPLS, NQA, IPv6, traffic distribution, and SVF features of the S7700&S9700&S12700 are controlled by licenses. Without the corresponding licenses loaded, the commands can be executed, but the functions do not take effect. After the corresponding licenses are loaded, X1E boards can support more FIB entries, PPPoE users, or APs. The MPLS, NQA, IPv6, traffic distribution, and service port cluster features of the S9300 are controlled by licenses. Without the corresponding licenses loaded, the commands can be executed, but the functions do not take effect. In addition, by using different licenses, X1E boards can extend FIB entries. Note: On an S9300, before a service port cluster is established, load licenses to both active/standby chassis.

Whether the cluster on S series modular switches needs a license
For S7700 and S9700 series switches, licenses are not required for CSS card and service port clustering. Licenses are not required for S12700 clustering. For S9300 series switches, licenses are not required for CSS card clustering, but required for service port clustering.

Do I need to apply for the license again after version upgrade
After the version upgrade, determine whether to apply for the licenses again according to activated licenses of the source version and license support. After the upgrade, run the display license command to check the activated licenses. The Product version field specifies the version number. - In V200R001, the PBX function is licensed. - In V200R002 and later versions, licensed functions include the voice service (SIP AG), data service, security service, CM&BEST, CT, and IVR. After determining activated licenses, understand the license support. The licenses supported by the AR vary depending on the version. Determine whether to apply for the licenses again according to activated licenses of the source version and license support. - If the license has been activated in the source version and the functions required in the target version have been authorized by the activated license, you do not need to apply for a new license. - If the license supported by the target version adds some functions and the functions are required, you must apply for the license. For example, when the AR is upgraded from V200R002C00SPC200 to V200R003C00, the license adds WLAN AC Express. To use this function, you need to apply for the license.
