Removing disks from a disk enclosure and inserting them into another disk enclosure of the same model on an OceanStor V3 storage system

3

Except for coffer disks, disks can be removed from a disk enclosure and inserted into another disk enclosure of the same model on an OceanStor V3 storage system. Coffer disks are the first four disks of the first disk enclosure. In coffer disks, the system writes the serial number of the enclosure where coffer disks reside. Upon power-on, the system checks the serial number and denies access of the enclosure if serial number inconsistency is detected. Note that the disk to be removed and reinserted cannot carry data. The disk is recognized as a newly added disk on the disk enclosure where it is reinserted.
In addition, users are allowed to relocate a non-coffer storage pool member disk in a disk enclosure or across disk enclosures connected to the same engine. However, the interval cannot exceed two minutes between the removal and reinsertion. After the reinsertion, the storage pool automatically initiates a reconstruction, writing data that is supposed to be written during the absence of the reinserted disk.

V3 disk enclosure
V3 disk enclosures are described as follows: A disk enclosure adopts a modular design and consists of a system enclosure, expansion modules, power modules, and disk modules.

Maximum number of disk enclosures that can be connected to a pair of SAS ports
A maximum of eight SAS common disk enclosures can be connected to a pair of SAS ports. High-density disk enclosures require two pairs of SAS ports, which support a maximum of eight high-density disk enclosures. Common and high-density disk enclosures cannot be connected to the same SAS loop.

What's the plan for configuring disk enclosures of V3 storage systems?
You can use eDesigner, a storage configuration tool to plan the configuration of V3 storage disk enclosures. To obtain eDesigner, click Link.

Can another hard disk in the enclosure become a coffer disk?
No. Coffer disks are used to store important data for the storage system, including configuration data, event information, and log information. When the storage system encounters an unexpected power failure, data in cache is written onto coffer disks. If a coffer disk is replaced by another hard disk in the enclosure, the storage system cannot run normally.
