Rules for configuring the hot spare disk policy for OceanStor T unified storage systems

0

For OceanStor T Series V100R005 storage systems, hot spare disks must be configured to ensure the reliability of the storage system. The rules for hot spare disk configuration are as follows:
1. For the controller enclosure that employs disk and controller integration, the number of hot spare disks must not be smaller than the total number of controller enclosures and disk enclosures. For the controller enclosure that employs disk and controller separation, the number of hot spare disks in the storage system must not be smaller than the number of disk enclosures.
2. The type and capacity of a hot spare disk must be the same as those of RAID group member disks.
3. Currently, storage systems support global hot spare disks only, and you cannot assign a hot spare disk to a specific RAID group.
4. Coffer disks cannot be used as hot spare disks.
5. Only free disks can be set as hot spare disks. If the storage system has additional free disks, you can set multiple hot spare disks for higher system reliability.

Whether coffer disks of OceanStor T Series unified storage can be set to hot spare disks
Coffer disks of OceanStor T Series unified storage cannot be set to hot spare disks. This is because coffer disks store configuration data of the storage system, events, logs, and data in the cache when a PSU fails. Only idle disks in the normal state can be set to hot spare disks.
