CX911 introduction

1

The CX911 includes two independent physical switching planes: 10GE switching plane and FC switching plane.

10GE L2/L3 switching plane:
? Provides 32 x 10GE downlink ports (each half-width slot: 2 x 10GE) and 16 x 10GE uplink ports.
? Provides 2 x 40GE ports that are connected to the midplane for interconnecting or stacking modules.
? Supports stacking. (The version delivered in 2013 does not support L3 switching and stacking. If these functions are required, you can upgrade the software.)

FC switching plane:
? Supports 16 x 8G FC downlink ports (each half-width slot: 1 x 8G FC port) and 8 x 8G FC uplink ports.
? Port rate: 2G/4G/8G auto-negotiation
? Its FC switch module is an ODM product from Qlogic, and supports the switching mode and NPV mode.
? In switching mode, the FC switch module can be directly attached to an FC storage device.
? In switching mode, the FC switch module can communicate with the FC switch from Qlogic using the E-Port.
? In NPV mode, the FC switch module can communicate with an FC SAN switch from another vendor.
? In NPV mode, the FC switch module can communicate with an FC SAN switch from Qlogic.

The two CX911s in a pair of slots can operate independently, in 1+1 redundancy mode, or in load sharing mode by working with the OS and NICs.

Whether switch modules used on the E9000 are hot-swappable
The E9000 provides four slots to install switch modules. Switch modules in slots 2X and 3X are in a pair, and switch modules in slots 1E and 4E are in a pair. The two switch modules in a pair of slots can operate independently, in 1+1 redundancy mode, or in load sharing mode by working with the OS and NICs.

Whether the CX911 supports GE or 10GE ports
The CX911 supports 10GE optical ports. The ports adapt to GE ports. The supported ports are as follows: ? 10GE switching plane: 32 x 10GE downlink ports (each half-width slot: 2 x 10GE) and 16 x 10GE uplink optical ports ? FC switching plane: 12 x FCoE downlink ports connected to slots 1 to 12, 4 x FC downlink ports connected to slots 13 to 16, and 8 x 8G FC uplink ports
