Setting the boot disk for multiple RAID arrays

5

To set the OS boot disk for a server configured with multiple RAID arrays, perform the following steps:
-LSI 2308 and 3008 RAID cards: Log in to the RAID card configuration interface, choose the system drive in the SAS topology, and press ALT+B to set the boot disk.
-LSI 2208 and 3108 RAID cards: Enter the VD property page, and choose Set Boot Drive and click Go.
-SoftRAID: On the SoftRAID management interface, choose Configure > Select Boot Drive and press Enter.

Adding a disk to a RAID array
You can add a disk to a RAID array as follows: 1. If the LSISAS2208 or LSISAS3108 RAID controller card is used, you can add a new disk to a RAID array online. For details about how to expand the virtual disk (VD) capacity online, see HUAWEI Server RAID Controller Card User Guide 09. 2. If the LSISAS2308 or LSISAS3008 RAID controller card is used, you cannot add a disk to a RAID array through online capacity expansion and cannot expand the VD capacity online. 3. If softRAID is used, you cannot add a disk to a RAID array online or expand the VD capacity online.

Configuring multiple RAID arrays for a server
If a server needs to be configured with multiple RAID arrays, the configuration method is the same for all the RAID arrays. During the configuration, the CU interface will display the hard disk available.
After configuring RAID arrays, you must also set the RAID array from which the server boot.

Impact of removing and installing hard disks without powering off the server
1. LSISAS2208 RAID controller card: If no hot spare disk is configured, the RAID controller card can rebuild data on a new hard disk installed online to replace a faulty hard disk. (The new hard disk must be of the same specifications as the faulty hard disk.) However, if you remove and reinstall a hard disk that is not faulty, the LSISAS2208 RAID controller cannot identify the data on the hard disk. 2. LSISAS2308 RAID controller card: If you remove and install a hard disk without stopping services, the LSISAS2308 RAID controller card can identify data on the hard disk no matter whether the hard disk is new or not.

Necessity of configuring RAID arrays for a RAID controller card
If the LSISAS1078, LSISAS2208, or LSISAS3108 RAID controller card is used, the disks can be recognized by the system only when they are in RAID arrays. If the LSISAS1068, LSISAS2308, or LSISAS3008 RAID controller card is used, the disks can be used as individual disks for OS installation, if they are not in RAID arrays.

Setting boot order for a server
You can set the server boot mode using any of the following methods: Method 1: 1) During the server startup process, press F11 to enter Boot Manager. 2) On the Boot page, set the boot device. For example, select HUAWEI DVD-ROM VM 1.1.0 to enable the server to boot from the DVD-ROM drive. Method 2: Set the boot device on the iBMC WebUI. Method 3: Set the boot order on the BIOS. For details, see the BIOS parameter reference. The Romley Platform BIOS Parameter Reference applies to V2 servers. Click Link to download it. The Brickland Platform BIOS Parameter Reference applies to 4- and 8-socket V3 servers. Click Link to download it. The Grantley platform BIOS Parameter Reference applies to 2-socket V3 servers. Click Link to download it. The boot setting configured using methods 1 and 2 takes effect only once. When the server restarts, the boot device set on the BIOS (using method 3) will take effect.
