Converting a GPON ONT to EPON

Hello, everyone!


This post enquires about the process of converting a GPON ONT to EPON. Please see more details below.


ISSUE DESCRIPTION


I have noticed that several ONT models are both EPON and GPON (HG8346R, HG8347R, HG8546M, etc.). Is there a way to convert GPON ONTs to EPON?

I tried HG8347R and HG8346R, converting is done by telnet as follows:

From EPON to GPON:
login (root admin)
su
set upport mode 1
set optmode mode 196
quit
reset

From GPON to EPON:
login (root admin)
su
set upport mode 2
set optmode mode 197
quit
reset

HG8546M does not support these commands, any idea how to convert those?

if your ont is model is HG8546M i can convert into hybrid mode. (GPON/EPON)

you have to upgrade epon or xpon firmware then it will be convert gpon to epon
