CONSOLE PASSWORD RESET: NE20E-S4

Hi all!

Please suggest how to reset the console password of Router NE20E-S4 (A customer forgot it accidently)

Version: V800R007


Although I tried with Boot menu, but there is no option of clear console password.


So I tried to upgrade the version to V800R010C10SPC500 >>>>>go to boot menu>>>>got the option of reset console password >>>  reboot / Boot with default mode (both option tried one by one) >>>>reboot the router >>>not getting option to reset the password


My doubt is the router not getting booting properly with new version file because after completing booting process >>> I go to boot menu >> not able to see reset console password option (it comes only with v8r10) version.


How to troubleshoot.



Boot menu option:

     1. Boot with default mode

     2. Boot from CFcard

     3. Enter ethernet submenu

     4. Set boot file and path

     5. Modify boot ROM password

     6. List file in CFcard

     7. Modify System and Chassis Parameters

     8. Modify start mode

     9. Reboot


Option shows as I upgrade the version and press CTRL+B:


     1. Boot with default mode

     2. Boot from CFcard

     3. Enter ethernet submenu

     4. Set boot file and path

     5. Modify boot ROM password

     6. List file in CFcard

     7. Modify System and Chassis Parameters

     8. Modify start mode

     9. Clear password for console user

    10. Reboot

    11. Enter TPM Submenu

Hi,

Please try the following ways:

1.  Using the Console Interface to Format the Device to Be Upgraded During Device Startup

2.  Using the Console Interface to Load a New Device Configuration File During Device Startup

3. When the device is started, press Ctrl+K to access the kernel menu. 

Enter the password. 

Password: WWW@HUAWEI


********************************************************************************************************************************** 

* Kernel Menu (version: 0.2) * 

********************************************************************************************************************************** 

    1.  List file(s) in cfcard.  

    2.  Delete file in cfcard.  

    3.  Rename file in cfcard.  

    4.  Download debug log.  

    5.  Change the password.  

    6.  Exit menu and continue startup.  

    7.  Reboot.  


Select the third option to rename the configuration file. Enter the name of the configuration file to be modified, for example, vrpcfg.zip, press Enter, and then enter the name of the configuration file to be modified, for example, vrpcfg1.zip. 

Restart the device. Then the device will start with no configuration.

Hello, yogijain
According to the product documentation, the console password can be cleared by  boot only in V800R010. Therefore, you can upgrade the device to V800R010.

Alternatively, you can download the configuration file to the local computer through the boot, delete the console port password configuration, upload the configuration file to the device through the boot, and then load the configuration file.

Do you mean that you still fail to clear the console port password after the upgrade?

Hi,
Before using the BootROM to clear the console password or modify the configuration, pull out one MPU. After the password is cleared and the main MPU board is started, insert the backup MPU. Otherwise, the two MPUs will synchronize configurations and the operation will become invalid.
