Connect irradiance sensor Meteocontrol SI Series on Smartlogger1000 through Adam converter Highlighted

This section describes how to connect the irradiance sensor Meteocontrol SI Series on Smartlogger1000 through Adam converter.

Note:

ADAM-4117 Modbus modules may come from the factory with the ADAM ASCII protocol set as the default protocol. In such cases, if the module is connected to a Modbus network, the network might not recognize the module. This may be due to incorrect settings. ADAM-4117 modules should be set up for the Modbus protocol instead of the ADAM ASCII protocol. Use Adam/Apax .NET Utility to search for the module to change the protocol (Initial COM settings: 9600 baud, N-8-1).

Jumper/Switch Settings for ADAM4117

To simplify the jumper settings, for the ADAM-4117, you can set whether the analog input type is voltage or current by adjusting the switch instead of opening the case.

If the Adam converter don’t have the jumper switch to set the channel to voltage or current choose the proper channel define on the front that match with the sensor technical data.

Depends of the sensor model choose the channel with 0-10V or 4-20mA connection:

Cable Connections between the Analog-to-Digital Converter and SmartLogger1000

The SmartLogger1000 provides three RS485 ports (COM1 to COM3). The ADAM-4117 can connect to any of the three ports of the Smartlogger1000, as shown in the following figure:

The procedure is as follows:

Step 1 Connect one end of the network cable (CAT 5E outdoor shielded cable recommended) to the DATA+\DATA- port on the ADAM-4117.

Step 2 Use a wire stripper to remove the insulation layer of the two cable cores at the end to be connected to the SmartLogger by 10 mm.

Step 3 Connect the cable to a terminal. Connect the DATA+ port on the ADAM-4117 to COM+ on the SmartLogger and connect the DATA- port on the ADAM-4117 to COM- on the SmartLogger.

Step 4 Connect the terminal to a COM port on the SmartLogger.

Adding an EMI

Login as advanced useràMaintenanceàConnect deviceàAdd deviceàchoose the device type EMI, connection mode Modbus RTU, set the port were you connect the Adam, set the addressàAdd Device

Default communication parameter for ADAM4117 are: baud rate 9600, address 1 and parity none.

Check the RS485 com port where the ADAM is connected

From the settings menuàRS485àset the connection parameters for the port that the Adam is connectedàset at Protocol tab Modbus, baud rate, parity, stop bit and start address 1, end address 100àsubmit

The RS485 parameter should be the default set on Smartlogger1000

Selecting an EMI model

Form monitoring menuàselect the EMI that you add beforeàselect the EMI model to Sensor (Adam)à set the signal address ( Modbus register) and specification valueàsubmit

Set the next signal register depend on what channel you install the sensors: for the channel 0 the signal register is 0…….for the channel 7 the signal register is 7.

-Set Read function code to Read holding register 03H for the ADAM-4117 or Read input register 04H for analog-to-digital converters that support only Read input register 04H.

-Set Read mode to Single read or Multiple read, whichever is supported by the ADAM-4117. If you set it to Single read, Start address and End address are unavailable. If you set it to Multiple read, set Start address and End address based on the obtained Modbus signal address range for the ADAM-4117. For example, if the ADAM-4117 has eight channels and the start address is 0, set Read mode to Multiple read and set Start address to 0 and End address to 7.

-Set the Modbus signal address to the register address for each ADAM channel for each type of environment data including radiation and ambient temperature. If the ADAM-4117 cannot collect a specific type of environment data, set the signal address to the invalid value 0xFFFF for the type.

-Lower Thres. and Upper Thres. indicate the range of the environment data that can be measured by the corresponding sensor. For example, if the temperature sensor measurement range is –40°C to +60°C, set Lower Thres. to –40 and Upper Thres. to 60.

-Start (mV/mA) and End (mV/mA) indicate the sensor output signal range. For example, if the temperature sensor output signal range is 4–20 mA, set Start (mV/mA) to 4 and End (mV/mA) to 20.

-Spec indicates the specification of the channel corresponding to the ADAM. For example, if the temperature sensor output range is 4–20 mA, select 4–20mA for the channel corresponding to the ADAM.

Set the sensor type SI-V-010 like below:

EX: if the sensor is connected on channel 0 of Adam converter set the signal address to 0, set the Lower Thres. And Upper Thres.  accordingly with technical data 0-1500W, spec to 0-10V and Start to 0, End to 10000mV (10V)

Set the sensor type SI-l-420-T like below:

EX: if the irradiance sensor is connected on channel 0 and the temperature sensor is connected on channel 1 of Adam converter set like below:

-Total irradiance: the signal address to 0, set the Lower Thres. And Upper Thres. accordingly with technical data 0-1500W, spec to 4-20mA and Start to 4mA, End to 20mA

-Ambient temperature: the signal address to 1, set the Lower Thres. And Upper Thres. accordingly with technical data -40-90, spec to 4-20mA and Start to 4mA, End to 20mA

Viewing Environment Information

The procedure for viewing environment data when the SmartLogger1000 is connected to split sensors is the same as that for viewing EMI data.

Hi everyone
I have a question
instead of ADAM converter, I'm using a Raspberry PI, so in the EMI model what option must I select?.

Thank you, best regards!
