HiCoins as reward: 0 (problem unresolved)

Hello guys!

This post contains my confusion about how an AST2 board works. Please see below my questions.

ISSUE DESCRIPTION

Q1. If we are using an FIU/DFIU board, is the AST2 board still required?

Q2. I've found two different kinds of AST2 boards: TMB1AST202 and TMB2AST201 as shown in the picture. I saw that TMB1AST2 board also has two ports (named WSC1 and WSC2), while TMB2AST2 doesn't have these two ports. What is the purpose of the WSC1 and WSC2 port? What is the difference in the functioning of these two AST2 boards?

Q3. Is it necessary to install OTDR modules for AST2 boards to work? For example, if the customer doesn't want FD, would I still need to install OTDR modules for the proper functioning of the AST2 board?

Q4. What sort of information does a supervisory signal carry?

Thanks in advance for providing me with answers to my above questions!

Dear friend!

1. If the FIU/DFIU board is used, it can work without the AST2 board. But the FIU/DFIU also lost its value.
The FIU/DFIU multiplexes and demultiplexes the main optical channel and the optical supervisory channel . The AST2 board provides optical supervisory channels for the equipment. If the equipment uses electrical supervisory channels, the FIU board and the AST2 board are not applicable. As shown in the following figure:

OBU

More information: Compare between the OSC and ESC

2. The WSC1/WSC2 port is used to transparently transmit two 100M Ethernet signals (FE signals). If the AST2 boards supporting the WSC1/WSC2 port are configured at both sites, FE signals can be transmitted as long as the monitoring optical channels are connected.

The difference between TMB2AST2 and TMB1AST2 is that TMB2AST2 does not have WSC1/WSC2 ports, while TMB1AST2 has WSC1/WSC2 ports.

3. The OTDR module is located inside the AST2 board. To use the OTDR function, purchase the corresponding license file to activate the OTDR module. If the OTDR function is not applicable, use optical fibers to connect the TM1/TM2 board to the FIU board, as shown in the following figure:

AST2

4. Monitoring signals provide communication channels between NEs and between NEs and the NMS. Used to transmit protection switching signals, issue configuration commands from the NMS to NEs, and report NE alarms and performance data. More: What are the DCN, DCC, and ECC?

Thank you!
