A management network port connects an SVP to a maintenance terminal. You can initialize the storage system by remotely logging in to the SVP or accessing the management software through the management network.

Prerequisites

The SVP is correctly connected to the management network.

Context

The two types of management network ports are required when connecting the SVP to the management network:

  • System management network port

Used to manage the whole storage system.

  • IPMI network port

Used to manage the SVP.

This post uses Windows Server 2008 (which is installed on the SVP) as an example to describe how to configure a management network port. For other operating systems, revise the operation procedure accordingly.

Procedure

1. Open the keyboard, video, and mouse (KVM).

2. On the SVP login page, enter the user name and password.

  1. The default user name and password of the SVP are Administrator and Admin@storage respectively.
  2. The default validity period of an SVP login password is 42 days. The system prompts you to change the password when the password is expiring.
  3. You are advised to change the default login password immediately after you have logged in to the SVP for the first time, and to periodically change your login password in the future. This operation reduces password leakage risks.
  4. On the page of the SVP, choose Start > Control Panel > User Accounts > Add or Remove User Accounts. From the account list, select the account and change the account's password as prompted.

3. Press Enter.

The SVP main window is displayed.

4. Set an IP address for a management network port.

  1.  Click Start.
  2.  Right-click Network and choose Properties from the shortcut menu. The Network and Sharing Center page is displayed.
  3.  In the left navigation tree, choose Change adapter settings. The Network Connections page is displayed.
  4. Select an adapter and set its IP address.

5. Set an IP address for an IPMI network port.

  1. Restart the SVP.
  2. During the restart, press F2 as prompted to go to the page for setting the BIOS.
  3. On the setup interface, choose Advanced > IPMI BMC Configuration > BMC Configuration. The BMC Configuration page is displayed, as shown below:
  4. Set IP Source to Static.
  5. Based on the IP address planned for the IPMI management network port, set IPv4 IP Address, IPv4 Subnet Mask, and IPv4 Gateway Address.
  6. Press F10 and choose yes to save the settings and exit.
