The S series switches (excluding the S1700) can function as a DHCP server to allocate IP addresses to DHCP clients in the following two modes:

- Based on the interface address pool: This configuration mode is simple and applies only to scenarios where the DHCP server and clients are on the same network segment. That is, no DHCP relay exists.
- Based on the global address pool: This configuration mode is applicable to scenarios where the DHCP server and clients are on different network segments (that is, a DHCP relay exists) or scenarios where the DHCP server and clients are on the same network segment but the DHCP server needs to assign IP addresses to clients on multiple interfaces.
