Checking Whether the IPC Frequently Restarts

  1. Log in to the IPC web page, choose Logs > Download All Logs to download IPC logs to the local computer, as shown in Figure 1.

  2. Open the message.dbg log generated at the time when the fault occurred.

    NOTE:
    IPC6625-Z30 is used as an example. The log folder contains two sub folders, among which usr is used to store historical logs and var is used to store current run logs. If the two sub folders do not exist, contact Huawei engineers for technical support.

  3. Search for the key log information updatetime to determine whether fault is caused by frequent IPC restart.

    NOTE:
    After the IPC is restarted, the system time will be reset and recorded in messsage.dbg.

    The default IPC startup time is 2001. During the start, the system will read the RTC time and set it to the system time. You can see the time changes in logs.

    Log information similar to the following is displayed:

    • If the IPC is not restarted during the fault occurrence time, check whether the switch is faulty.
    • If the IPC is restarted during the fault occurrence time, go to the next step.

  4. Check whether the IPC is restarted due to the power supply.
    1. Check whether the IPC is powered by a PoE switch.

      • If the IPC is directly powered, use a multimeter to check whether the power input is normal according to rated voltage and current of the IPC.

        If the power supply does not meet the specifications, check the power supply. If the power supply meets the specifications, check whether the switch is faulty.

      • If the IPC is powered by a PoE switch, go to the next step.

    2. Log in to the switch connected to the IPC in local Console port mode or network (for example, STelnet) mode.

      NOTE:
      This topic uses a Huawei switch as an example. For other switches, seek technical support from corresponding vendors.

    3. Run the dis trapbuffer command to check whether the PD disconnected alarm exists.

    4. Run the dis poe information command to check the PoE statistics of the entire switch.

      Information similar to the following is displayed:

      PSE Information of slot 0:

      Check whether the value of Available Total Power is lower than 20% of the value of PoE Power Supply.

      • If yes, the fault may be caused by insufficient PoE.

        In this case, you need to add the PoE power module or decrease the number of IPCs that use PoE. Then, check whether the fault is rectified.

      • If no, go to the next step.

    5. Run the dis poe power-state interface gig 0/0/4 command to check the PoE status of the port that connects to the IPC.

      NOTE:
      • In the preceding command, 0/0/4 indicates the number of the port on the switch that connects to the IPC. You can set it based on the site requirements.
      • Run the dis mac-address command on the switch to display the MAC table. Then, determine the number of the port on the switch that connects to the faulty IPC according to the IPC MAC address.
      • To query the IPC MAC address, choose Settings > System Configuration > System Information on the IPC web page and check the IPC Physical address under Device Information.
      Information similar to the following is displayed:

      Port power status : Powered //Interface power status. The normal status is Powered.

      Port current(mA) : 214 //Interface output current Port voltage(V) : 53 //Interface output voltage (in normal conditions: over 48 V) 

      Check whether the port output power, voltage, and current can ensure proper operation of the IPC.

      • If no, you need to add the PoE power module or decrease the number of IPCs that use PoE. Then, check whether the fault is rectified.
      • If yes, the IPC is faulty. Contact Huawei engineers for technical support.
